Should I get a Jap or UK Wagon...?
Having had a Jap STi in the past I know of the 'issues' they can bring... however this time around I am looking for a Wagon. Sub 5k.. so not a huge choice I guess.
Jap v UK Spec
What are the specs or the power, interior etc ?
Used to know of a few good specs site a while back..

UK wagon definately.
I own one and I have driven a Jap one. Apparently the Jap is alot faster, I didn't feel that to be honest. Apparently the UK ones are 215bhp, I don't think thats totally spot on. Mine feels as good to drive if not slightly better than my Jap Sti that I had. My mate who bought the STi off me said he could only just keep up with me when he was behind.

Personally(and I'm sure other wagon owners will agree) I do not think they are that low in bhp figures. I think it was maybe a general figure from the factory. Not alot of cars overtake me, lets put it that way.
I was crapping myself everytime I drove the STi, every knock or tap had me driving like an old woman. I just couldn't relax in it.
It was certainly nice when I needed parts for it(Uk car) and I could just walk into my Subaru dealers for them.

only good thing about the jap imports at that price is it will give u more choice for the money cause your gonna be limited... personally Id go with the UK car though as insurance hassles are easier to deal with, less power but not noticably.

Hi,
If your looking to mod it later for bigger bhp go for the uk as it has the td05 turbo - its only 208 or 215bhp standard but can be chipped easy upto 260-80bhp with that turbo.
WRX import wagon comes with td04 turbo which spools up a lot quicker but doesnt hold much power past 5500 rpms - you really feel it tail off. (ive just converted my wrx wagon to td05 +z4 ecu) standard wrx wagon is 220ps - about 215 on uk super fuel.
You could modd to have more power but like i say the turbo doesnt hold it for long. Personally i much prefer the feel of the td05 cos it just keeps pulling and pulling al the way upto the red line like a true sports car although the td04 is ace for round town cos the power is instant
WRX wagons are dirt cheap - you can get a nice one for about 4000 now.

i own a jap wagon 94 , didnt have any trouble getting insured but iam 27, they r supposed to be quicker but i havent driven a uk one,as for parts there is no problem getting anything u want for them,
i chose the wagon cause spec wise it was much better ,colour coded mirrors and handles, electric fold in mirrors ,air con and sunroof, plus the fact it is supposed to be quicker

I'm soon to be selling my Black MY95 WRX Wagon (ie JDM) so if you want to know more let me know, located in hertfordshire btw. The main differences between JDM and UK are the electric folding mirrors, colour coding and air con as mentioned previously. Power at this age is broadly the same (220PS for the JDM) but I believe the JDM car has different gear ratios.

Up to about 97/98 the JDM WRX wagons only produced 220ps (on 100 ron fuel), performance wise, there wasnt much in it, if anything you got more on the JDM car, but the UK cars had a TD05 turbo (inc wagons) upto and including 1996, where as, as stated, the JDM WRX wagons had a TD04 turbo.
