Saw an impreza 2.0 sport at B&C on saturday.

Looked like a turbo (same front spoiler, high rear spoiler, same dark grey buckety seats but with yellow instead of light grey bits), but with no scoop on the bonnet and '2000 sport' on the back.

£16K, sheep in wolf's clothing methinks - there'll be a lot of Nova boys feeling pleased with themselves at thrashing one of these.

Question

Excuse me, but a sport isn't that bad- I have a sport, and I don't get thrashed by Nova boys. It's not got the performance of a turbo i agree- but as i said above... it isn't that bad.

Does the engine differ from the 2.0 GL impreza in any way?

Thats the new GT Sport. Normal sport but with P1 High wing. I have a sport, its got great acceleration and can give most cars a run for their money. Its still got the throaty flat4 sound as a turbo and can get 35+ mpg.
cheap for the performance and looks. Im pretty damn pleased with it.

this didn't have a P1 high wing, looked exactly like a new shape turbo 4dr, 16" alloys and everything, but no scoop on the bonnet.

the B&C chap said the engine was the same as in the 2.0GL courtesy car I'd just borrowed. It was good off the lights , but it didn't really pull after 3500 revs

If the engine's tuned differently, then I stand corrected (serves me right for listening to a salesman!).

Fosters,

Subaru are doing a special edition (run out) version of the sport, in bright yellow or black. I remember seeing details of it on one of the dealers websites (possibly Lancaster's).

I have an MY98 Sport. It has the same front spoiler, sideskirts and low level rear wing as a turbo. Mine also has the turbo 16" alloys but doesnt have the bonnet scoop.

I will take you on and give you a good kicking in it anytime on a twisty road.

It has the same engine as the 2.0i GL, its is pretty poo on power but has great torque, i can kill any UK turbo from the lights to 40MPH as its got better torque low down and is lighter. Above 40MPH i get waisted by a turbo on acceleration but on a fast flowing road i will kick a turbos *** unless it has uprated suspension and SO2's as being a lot lighter it is more chuckable.

The sport is one of the most underated cars around and has been on the road for years.

It is still posible to get one in a full 4 wheel power slide but it does take more skill than a turbo to do it as you dont have the power to correct your mistakes.

Bring it on Fosters, i will kick your *** big stylee

JF, considering your numerous track exploits I'm not sure I'd take you on

I'd have a go at the 0-40 sprint though!

Just as a matter of interest, does anyone out there know the 0-40 times for the sport vs the UK turbo?

Pure Speculation

0-40

Sport - 4.0sec
UK Turbo - 2.6sec
STi R /RA - 2.3sec

Re, Whats up Fosters? Scared of a Nova Boy.

I've only had my Prodrive'd* turbo for a month now, so haven't got very used to it yet - I've managed to drift it round some corners in the dry, but can't imagine I've pushed the car very much. I usually hoon around the countryside on my own and don't race many people, but I had a bit of a race with a 308gtb the other day and did very well. other than that I don't know how good I am, so certainly don't and won't screen any ability I might have on this bbs just out of a basic need not to look like a dufus!

As I said though, I'd be fairly competent at a 0-40 dash!

Fosters me old mate ...

I've got a 99 sport and it's a very quick a-b car, ok it hasn't got the straight line speed but it makes up for it in handling through the twisty bits ... Been on a couple of the northern meets and surprised one or two as I could keep up through the twisty bits (tyres complaining a bit ) no problem but tended to drop back a bit on the straights ..

Nova/Astra/Vectra boys ... Not really an issue, they can rev and abuse their cars at the traffic lights all they like 'cause when they change I let 'em go .... only to catch 'em a q/mile later on the duel/c half asleep or on the mobile as I sail past ....

Lets think of the plus points ..

1.Same great looks (turns heads where I live just as much)
2.cheaper insurance ( £350 fc prot )
3.Same warranty
4.same dealers
5.31mpg

nuff said me thinks

I can see through this.

The bloke that sprayed yellow and black body shells got carried away and did too many.

And the men that made turbo seats and rear spoliers were more productive than the man that made bonnets with intercooler vents.

Lets use up the parts bin.

just done my 0-40 timing.

Its a stageringly fast 4.8 seconds ROFLMAO

my westie is doing 80MPH by then

Top tip, dont try and do a drag start in a sport, it gets a bit smelly, the clutch must be so puny. LOL

The guys i have left at the lights must have been real muppets as they were definately trying. LOL

I'll have to wait until about October before I can test if the Turbo can beat 4.8 but I'll let her rip once it's run-in

Fosters,
I apologise, i thought you were trying to have a go at Sport owners just because our cars aren't as good as Turbo's... if it's a Turbo or a Sport... it's still an Impreza
What I meant was, I've done alot to my car (silver MY99) to try and get the best performance out of it as possible (lowered, backbox/dp etc) , and when compared to my brothers Vauhall Calibra Supertouring - it is near enough exactly the same. I do not know about the 2-0GL. As to what Kev said above, I feel mine is amazing through corners.
That isn't bad for a normal road car.... by means - well at least i don't think so , not a: JapaneseSuperDooperPowerRocketKillerMachine I agree but hey/ho! When I can get a good insurance quote that isn't semi rediculous I'll be there..
Ian

PS- I have never experienced a burning from a Nova.

PPS- How do you get 30-31mpg?????? I only get around 20-25mpg.

PPPS- How fast is the turbo at going backwards????

Engine and gearing are obviously different to the 2.0 non turbo (impreza) engine I experienced.

apols for the slurs - did stir up some emotions though, eh?
