Default classic buying advice/guide

can anyone point me in the direction of a good guide and basic costs?

I've not much of a clue when it comes to scoobies regarding different models, spec etc etc.

i've seen an L reg WRX import that i quite like, but not sure if if a decent deal or not.

L reg silver, all colour coded,
18 multi spoke pro drive wheels
mongoose exhaust, HKS filter, and greddy boost controller (although i dont know what boost its running - only had a quick sit in it on saturday at the garage.)

the guy has a print out of a run that produced 285bhp and 244lb torque.
dependant on the boost its running is near std i asume this about what it should be?

ta muchly for any help.

Others may disagree, but if it's your first Scooby and as you admit that you do not know much about them, then perhaps you should avoid a modified import.

For the the same reason I bought a MY00 standard. Put on a ScoobySport Decat after reading loads of exhaust threads, and now thinking about a remap. That way I know exactly whats been done, not what the seller wants me to know.

Cheers

Agree with the above: an elderly import is not the best way to go for a first Scooby; too many "ifs"! Find yourself a good UK classic with a FSH. You can then modify to your liking and will be able to account for the cars past and good condition.

Best.

One other thing to consider - insurance. It can cost a lot more to insure an import over a UK model, and some companies won't touch imports.
And ask if the documents are all available - receipts for services/mods, and old MOT certificates. They don't prove a car is in goood condition, but they do give you an idea as to how well it's been looked after.

That wouldnt inspire me with the confidence needed to part with my hard earned mate.......

"Whats that then Mr Salesman??"
"To be honest mate, I havent a clue... I heard someone call it a steering wheel...... But it'll be in the documents somewhere, I'm sure you'll find it"

Cheers,
Grant

Mate, you need a full independent inspection if you're serious about this car!!!! A salemans shrugging his sholders is an invitation to disaster!

Best.

whilst I agree that a UK car would be a good move, an import might not be a disaster. My first Impreza was a 94 L-plate WRX and it was great - never skipped a beat.

One thing to remember is that the cars are built in the same place! There are certainly differences but I think you would be happy with whatever you get.

Finally, when you get it, it will delight, terrify and inspire confidence in your abilities all at the same time. Just don't go silly with the right foot, they need to be learnt and can really bite you hard if you aren't careful. As a treat, why not go on a driving course when you get it?
