Default Sti Version 3 Type R vs Sti Version 5 Wagon

Could anyone tell me what would be quicker out of the two. The type R is more or less standard with 18" Super Leggeras but the Wagon which is mine ;-) is as follows:

MY 99 V reg, metallic Black
Version 5 with version 6 engine
Eibach Springs
Bilsten Dampers
Quickshift
organic Clutch
4 pots
titanium strut brace
Aluminium bonnet

Yes some of the above is standard on my car but this guy is absolutely doing ma nut in. Hes banging on about how his car will gobble mine up.

What do you guys say

I might be wrong, but, don't the classic wagon WRX and STI engines produce less power than the saloon engines (smaller turbo or something and different ECU map but could be wrong)

on that basis, i'd say that the V3 typeR would be the favorite

define 'quicker'! Sorry to be pedantic but these posts crop up once in a while and mean nothing.

For example, if you are interested in acceleration and the type-R has the close-ratio box then he could, in theory, be knocking on the door of 0-60 in 4.3 seconds - which is pretty quick. (have got a V3 Type-R and it is, how shall we say, 'brutal' )

If you define what you mean by quicker people can give you more useful responses

Oh, and, just a thought, maybe he's a better driver than you... (flamesuit on)

the type R will be quicker, due to the bigger turbo which is a ball bearing kind so it therefore spools up a hell of alot quicker than a standard item. Also the type R is alot lighter. Im talking from the experiance of havin the pleasure of owning a Type R

Right you see, here is the problem.

Firstly, dont worry about the drivers mate, i most definately am a better driver, only that i have never had anything like a wagon before. Prior to this ive had a Skyline R33 GTS-T (344Bhp)

Nevertheless, Ive had many guys who have been in his car as well as my car and they all admit that mine seems a hell of a lot quicker. They comment on the acceleration a lot saying that it is rapid 0-60.

Only thing that comes to mind is, is it really a version 3.

The car definately is a Type R but with a private plate. However, being an electric blue colour, I thought it has to be version 3 or aove as i dont think you could get earlier models in that colour plus the fact that someone said it is a P reg so thought it may be a V3.

Also, another thing is that since ive bought the car, I have done no mods on the car as such but for some reason it seems more than I had expected. I have driven a version 4 Type R and it didnt seem as quick. Also a friend of mine whos got a P1 told me that my car would leave him but top end hell win.

These are only from experiences and others comments but i am very confused.

Also since it come with folder loads of docs, I have this booklet which shows all power outputs of Turbo Charged Subarus and mine come under 300 Bhp standard

Dont quote me with it but if anyone has doubts ill scan the doc and have someone to host it on here.

Any more comments would be welcome

I would say the Type-R for reasons listed by other above.

You only got a Type-R from Version 3 onwards, AFAIK there are no Version 1 or 2 Type-R's or even 3dr versions.

Cheers,
Grant

the STi V3 Type-R's were _rumoured_ to have 300bhp as standard, I am not saying that they do or don't. Don't forget that the power figures are for Japanese 102RON fuel too - you won't hit them with UK fuel.

Much will be down to the drivers. Not much between the cars.

When I first got mine I toasted a P1 from the lights (as hard as he tried). I had a MY99 uk just with de-cat.

There needs to be a rather large power gap for one to catch the other once away.

You dont need to ask on here. Just let us know how you get on

Either way the scooby wins

O the lads with the Type R kept braggin that it was over 340 Bhp, so a friend of mine did a deal with them that if their car is even over 320 Bhp, on RR hell pay for their rolling road otherwise, they pay for it themselves. And honestly speaking, it come upto 280 Bhp.

Does that answer some questions, well it defo answered the question - Is their car 340 Bhp

LOL
