Beware if selling your car folks - scam !
Another scam email about my car today, see below for his latest response. I am told the cheque will clear and then bounce at a later date, the car will have left the country at this point.

Hello Jason,
Thanks for your mail.I am okay with the condition of the car and would like to make an immediate purchase.I would like you to do me a favour though,I intend to pay you with a bank draft that was intended for me through services rendered. I have a client over there in the Uk who owes me money which i would like to use to purchase this car.Only problem is that sum owed me is more than price of your car. Please, could you deduct price of car from sum ?and send the difference to my shipping agent who will be on standby to come and do the pick up on my behalf.I will wait till draft clears your bank before i instruct my agent to come and do the pick up.Pls bear with me as i would not like to miss out on this great buy.I will need your assent in this matter so if you please,Let me have your full name and address so that i may have my client draw out the payment in your name and also send it immediately.Thanks.
Regards,

I had to read it several times to try and understand what he was trying to say.
Although I'm still confused about the cheque clearing and then bouncing.
Glad to see you're not falling for these silly scams Jason.

regardless of what any one here purports to know or would do,,
its dead easy..
SCAM... without covering sial (scam in a lake)
yes a cheque can clear and bounce... otherwise how would they get away with it.
if you dont understand contact your local fraud squad, and discuss it with them
i believe its a variation of the nigerian 419 scam.
If you think you know best , and want to loose your scooby or whatever car you were selling,
send it to me, ( foc of course) i will provide the same rip off, but at least i wont charge any shipping fees
lol

i recieve cheques daily from clients abroad, when i put the cheque into our bank, payment shows up on the statement a couple of days later, as you would expect, but the bank is only paying you assuming the funds will clear, this can take as much as 3 to 4 weeks, if the cheque bounces the bank is quite entitled to lift the funds back out of your bank. so as well as having your car the punter also has the cash that you have sent off to the party that he owes money to.

cash. all the way - make a date for the purchaser, yourself and the bank to meet. They then pay the bank directly (bank then checks the bank notes for fraudulent copies). You sign all the papers required (in a bank it is relatively safe), you hand over the keys etc and they drive off. You now have the money safe (saves you carrying wads of cash around) and they have the car... all happy.
Always ONLY sell to the person who is buying the car - and then takes responsibility of it (here in Germany you sign this over to the next person). It is a legal contract, and should anything happen, it is their responsibility.
*if* some guy wants to buy your car, they will come personally and pick it up. Even if they have to pay a few hundred quid for a plane flight - this relative %age of the purchase price is not much...
stay aware, and put yourself in their position... if you want to buy a car, how would YOU do it??...
