Clarkson's "Full Throttle" vid with Type R ver cossie!
Just saw this today, it was on sky on one of the UK channels, could'nt believe it!! was like watching my own car on TV!
He started off with a groupe Escort Cossie shootout and the fastest one out of the ten which turned out to be a highly tuned MA developments one was put head to head with an STI Type R ver5 in cool grey.
Clarkson was in the cossie and the tasty V.Butler in the scoob! they looked like they were on the same airfield with a mockup track laid out as in his Top Gear show.
Anyone else seen this???
Will keep you all guessing as to who came out on top!

I've got the video at home, absolutely brilliant. I think it came out xmas last year. He's jusy brought out a knew one too where he catapults a Ford Scorpio through the air and blows it up with an 82mm anti tank missile! Nuts!

The car used belonged to a mate of mine, he sold it a year ago.
It was an 1998 Sti V Type R, fitted with a fully Scoobysport 2.5 inch exhaust system from the turbo back, Leda C coil overs, Scoobysport Brembos with floating 304mm discs, 17 inch gold Speedline Alessios with 215x40x17 Bridgestone S02's which were new on the day, and shagged by the end of it
The day of the test he spent most of it texting me to let me know what they were doing next
VBH was driving the car in platform sandles and was suffering from a broken toe...she also rather liked the car
The vid was made in 1999, I have a few pics from the day that I'll have a go at uploading...oh and they did several runs, swapped drivers and still the results were the same

Brun, err no it wasn't
They couldn't believe what happened on the day, various different drivers tried each car and the results were the same, basically I guess that the circuit they had set up suited the power delivery and the 'slighty' adjusted chassis of the Scoob
As they say; 'we'd 'ave 'im in the twisties'

What a sack of cack.
Had the MA Developments Cossie been unleashed properly it would have murdered the Scoob. The dead heat was for the purposes of the video only. The MA Developments car is awesomely quick.

I spoke to the guy who owned the cossie at the time just a few weeks ago and it was pushing out just over 400bhp when it was filmed. How could a 300bhp scooby beat a 400bhp cossie??? I thought clarkson drove it pretty crap too, went really wide at times.

easy its called to much power for the track
only the same as my m8s uk turbo with ppp and my 22B with 400lbs torque his is easer to drive round the corners

its not just power is it.
brakes and handling improvements are just as important as raw power, agreed if it was a drag the escos probably would win, but that is not what the test was.
The leda b's are a fantastic match for the classic

I remember reading the magazine article on it at the time. IIRC, it said something like "under acceleration, the cossie just rocketed away from the scoob", but claimed the scoob made it all back under braking / in the corners. I don't know what the cossie had done to the chassis, but a Type R with the Leda's (assuming set up properly), and uprated Brembo brakes is probably going to be a fair bit quicker braking / round corners than a standard cossie (or a standard scoob). If it was a fairly tight, twisty track, being massively fast on the straights is only a small amount of having good lap times. And whilst it may have been a fair bit slower, it's not as if a 308bhp Type R is slow on the straights.
I remember vividly a Brands Hatch indy circuit historic saloon/tourer race. Ridiculously powerful Ford Galaxy's etc (700bhp or something), against (old shape) mini cooper. Every lap, the cooper slaughtered them through the infield sections and the corners, only to be overtaken across the start line where the leading galaxy was doing about 50mph more! Extreme example, but you get the point.

Just spoke with a conatct that knows the MA Development crew very well who has informed me that the Escort Cossie used was running standard suspension and brakes with its 405bhp. Had the Escort had similar suspension and brake tweeks the results would have been a forgone conclusion.

pbee, I knew Darren from the IWOC days, when S'net was in it's infancy, and being set up by Phil
Have lost touch with him since I moved away from Kent about 5 years ago, although we have spoken on the odd occaision since. Last I heard he was giving up on the car thing and was getting really into his diving
