Get this on my MY98 also but not all the time. Mostly notice it a very light throttle openings ans at low revs. Also it occassionally runs on ticking for a second after the engine has been turned off.

No idea mate.

Mine has been doing it since I bought it nearly 3 years and 30,000 miles ago and it's still going OK (he says looking for a bit of wood )

It’s your boost solenoid, its suppose to tick… so don’t worry. Worry if it stops though

the fact that its ticking loud enough to be heard in the car could that be a bad thing? is it worth replacing? what could happen if it dies????

I’ve not heard of anybody’s totally failing but I’m sure it’s a possibility. You can clean them out every so often (you will find out the procedure if you do a search) But they are supposed to tick. You can mount them on a bit of rubber or sponge to reduce the ticking in car. I’m sorry I don’t know what would happen if it stopped working.

I questioned my noisy Boost control solenoid. Its normal as already explained, but i changes it for a second hand one which is a hell of a lot quieter.
