45k cambelt service - dealer or specialist?
As it says really. I'm looking at the cambelt service for my P1, as, although it's only done 39Kish so far, it is that time, and I just wondered what the general consensus would be on which route to take as it's out of warranty.
I'd also be interested to hear the likely cost (I live in London).
Cheers chaps

Personel preference really. Had mine done at the clinic cost £275 in the end due to needing new tensioner.....normally only £175.
I do know that it took them 4hours not sure what Subarus labour charges are nowadays.
By the way £175 supplied & fitted from clinic.

if no warranty, go for a known specialist - anyone ever wanting to buy your car is likely to fall into the 'enthusiast' category, and is likely to be happy with that - just don't let them get a discount cos its not fsubarush!

Cheers Guys, I was hoping that this might be the accepted view.
Scoobyclinic gets good reviews (good price ) but it's oop north as I understand it. Any recommendations for the shandy drinking end of the country?

The belt "should" cost around £70 to £80 (dealers charge about £100), Idlers are about £60 each (if required - 2 in total) and a tensioner is another £100odd too (if required). Tensioners and iders only need to be replaced if the bearings show signs of drying out, play or roughness, or the ram on the tensioner sticks or doesn't moves smoothly.
So partswise it can cost anything between £70 to £300 in parts alone!
Subarus labour rate is rather on the steep side too, so it can run into very high figures!
It's not a hard job to do, most certainly one of the easiest cars on the road to do a cambelt change on IMO. Which baffles me as to why it's the most expensive cambelt service I've ever come across from a main dealer labour-wise and parts.
Do a cambelt swap on a Porsche 928 or Ferrari 355 and then your talking tricky
