My 0-60 time

My 0-60 and 1/4 mile time
Just got myself a new toy....a Race Technology AP22 Performance meter. Just thought I'd share some figures from my MY95 UK Saloon with the following mods:
Revolution 3" DP and system
K&N panel Filter
Resonator box removed and replaced with cold air feed
MAF "grill" removed
MRT inlet plenum replacement pipe
Walbro pump and FSE reg
Fidanza 4.2KG flywheel and Scoobyclinic clutch
Apexi Power FC mapped by Andy F (remap due)
1 bar boost
Not too shabby I think. It should be getting remapped later this month as I have a new TMIC that should be arriving. We also encountered a few problems when the Apexi PFC was initially fitted....namely O2 sensor goosed, coil packs nearly goosed and the boost control solenoid not allowing over 1bar boost. The O2 sensor and coil packs have been replaced and the boost control solenoid is being replaced by an Apexi item. My christmas is going to be 9 days early this year
I'll post more data later when I've had a proper play.

How would you get a peak power from the AP22? I mean maximum BHP not the maximum on a 0-60 run, I assume you'd have to do a 0-140+ in 4th gear?
Do the instructions tell you to measure your times on a flat surface? What happens if you start going down hill?
Thanks

The documentation says the unit is accurate to 2-3% out of the box but the error can be reduced to below 1% by setting the tilt factor to compensate for vehicle squat under acceleration. I have it set for 0.013 which is between "Sports cars with firm suspension" (0.011) and "normal road car" (0.015).
The BHP is worked out from rolling resistance, cda and vehicle mass. I have entered 1320KG and 0.33 cd but I have yet to down a coast down test to determine rolling resistance. The BHP figures shown above may be inaccurate but the timings are correct.
For accurate results, testing should be carried out on a flat straight road. If there is significant wind, test in the opposite direction and average the results.
I am sure the experts on here can elaborate more.

Nice figures Phil.
Finding a suitable quiet road around Teesside to do the testing must have been a struggle.
I had to head out towards Stokesley for a flat quiet stretch.
Cheers
Martin (MY01 4.6secs 0-60mph)

Well, Andy did the remap for me (cheers) and it is now boosting at 1.25 bar peak, dropping to 1.15 at the top end (I don't want my UK 5 speeder to die before I get a replacement). I have since fitted an Avo TMIC.
I tried to get a good 1/4mile time this morning but traffic and very wet roads have made it difficult. I was parked on the side of this road for about 10 mins waiting for traffic to clear so only managed to get one run in. I pulled away just as white van man came off the roundabout. I would have loved to have seen his face as my car fought for grip and then explosions came from the exhaust when changing gear.
Anyway, I was about 1/2sec off my best 0-60 judging by the saved results so I fully expect to improve my times once it dries up a bit. Whatever anybody tells you, even with 4wd it is quite easy to get the tires to light up in the wet
Results: 13.71 @ 103.8 and 0-100 in 12.49s (the power shown on the below results is @ wheels but the settings to calculate it havn't been set up yet so ignore it for now. I need to do a coast down test which will calculate losses through the drivetrain)

I also have an AP22, they're really nice bits of kit. Many motoring mags use these to test cars and Race Technology often sell these 'used' units on ebay, they tend to go for about £100-£110. The newer units have some good analysis software available with them but this is also achievable through a bit of excel wizardry. You use hyperterminal and a supplied RS232 15 pin cable to hook up to a pc. They are accurate and do measure power at the wheels which takes out any fudge factors normally applied by a rolling road outfit.
Just for info, when fully calibrated for rolling resist / drag / squat etc my box standard MY99 shows 172 bhp at the wheels which equates to a 25% drivetrain loss.
You can also measure lateral g (wooohhahahahaha)

Nice One Phil,
Sort those 60' times out (should be around 1.7 - 1.8 secs) and you will be running in the 12's for quarter mile.
Keep up the good work.

I'm back in England for a week in April. How exactly do they work and do you know where I can get one? Can I buy one and bring it back here or are they mail order only?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Very nice times BTW.

Ok, got a decent start this time but backed off early.....roundabout looming, icy road and lack of bottle! As you can see, I'd hit 100 by 11.9s so should have had a higher terminal. (13.4 @ 98.9)
I'm going out to play later now the sun is out and the road is semi-dry.
Edit: I also did a coastdown test to calibrate the power figures. Seems it was allready set from the last time a played with it. So the power figures should be relatively accurate @ wheels. I dunno what my fw figures are but assuming a 25% power loss through the transmission it should be roughly 295bhp. Does this sound about right for the performance figures I am seeing?

I managed to get 5.9 to 80 in my 400bhp 4x4 cossie, unfortunately the private test track wont really allow the 1/4 mile to be done safely!

my motor ran 256@ wheels and 320@fly, also ran 250@wheels on another rolling road.
RAs seem to have less tranmission losses but if you use the same factor
320/256 =1.25
221x1.25 = 276bhp

plug 1235kgs and 276bhp and 4wd into www.letstorquebhp.com and you get 0-100 in 12.02 and 0-60 in 4.47

360bhp - was it bench dyno-ed ?
