Default WHATS THE FURTHEST YOU'VE DRIVEN IN YOUR SCOOBY IN ONE DAY

As title:-
although it is now sold on, I was the owner of a MY97 classic turbo.
This August we went to Annecy in France (on the Swiss French border) for our anual holiday, we did the journey down over two days to make it easier
for the kids. Had a brilliant Holiday. Anyone who has ever thought about driving on mainland europe must do it the roads are as smooth as a snooker table (no tyre noise from fat scooby tyres)and lightly used.
The best road i know is the A39 which goes from Dijon to the east of Lyon it is one of the straightest emptiest stretches of road that I know of, you can go as fast as you like in complete safety.
Any way on the way back to Derby we set off from Annecy at 0600 in the morning and arrived in calais at 2.00 in the afternoon, left Dover at 1700 at arrived in Derby at 2200 at night.
Total miles....778.....cruised at a steady 90mph averaged 28 mpg and no oil or water was used for the whole week...1900 miles.

Overall it was abrilliant drive, the car wasn't too noisy (std exhaust) and the seats were just about ok for the journey.
Can anyone beat 778 miles in one day ?

Blimey! Mrs C and I did 530 miles from Scotland to Hampshire in one day and we were knackered enough. Respect to you guys, provided you were actually awake enough all the time to be safe.

Default Scotland to London

I bought my MY00 from Andy White in Greenock & drove it back to London myself (girlfriend was scared to drive it :-)
The day started at 4am & after picking up girlfriends car from Stanstead arrived home about 7 pm knackered after stopping in Blackpool for lunch.
Then followed confusion with Pizza Hut not delivering so ordered Indian takeaway & of course Pizza arrives at same time
Being a glutton for punishment a few months later went with my mate Graham to check out his MY99 wagon in Aberdeen (at least we shared the drive back)

600 miles in 8 hours, including 3 petrol stops and getting stuck around the paris ring road.

Nurburgring to Brittany.

Those toll roads are fun!

Toll roads and motorways? Pah. You need twisties. Lots of them.

Tour d'Ecosse, Saturday 3rd October 2001:

449 miles according to AutoRoute. All done in a day with the odd photo stop and lunch in Ullapool. We left the hotel something like 7.30am that morning - I remember helping the hotel staff get everything out for breakfast I did half a tank of petrol in sixty miles at one point

But as Brun says, Felly will win. Although he did stop to sleep somewhere

About 850 miles in 24 hours from the other side of Interlaken in Switzerland.

Left at 08.00 on Saturday morning had a leisurely cruise through the Swiss scenery and some blasts down the Susten pass (absolutely FANTASTIC the best fun I've ever had in a car - great roads, great weather, car went like a dream - that was in the pre Scooby days - Primera eGT - a great car). Eventually got back at 08.00 on Sunday (bit of a delay at the tunnel) totally tired out but on a high.

Vowed to do it again soon in the Scoob but still haven't got round to it as yet.

As Brun Mentioned above John F might win this one.... Somewhere in the bowels of scoobynet there is a post from John on "running in" his new car IN A DAY !!!.

It's quite a long post as he seemed to travelled most of the Uk.......... mostly Scotland in the Snow AFAIK.

Makes good reading on how to run in a car

I once had to blast up to Newcastle and back from London. Just over 600 miles. Took about three and a half hours up, four and a half back, with a 45 minute stop in the middle. I felt fresh as a daisy, very comfy drive.

The old Legacy Estate expired the next day, after a 10 mile trip. It appears a hose had burst on the Newcastle trip but due to torrential rain, the engine somehow kept it's cool. Next day was sunny and dry...

      Cool

Reading these posts... wow, my best was about 550 miles in one day coming back to Bradford from Thurso on the northern edge of Scotland, and I thought THAT was a long day. You lot must live on Red Bull, lol!

Here's my posts about my trip

And here's the John Felstead novel alluded to earlier...

Not in a Scoooby, but did Birmingham to Northern Italy (Through MOnt Blanc Tunnel) in 24 Hours non-stop, and DID NOT USE A MOTORWAY OR AUTO ROUTE AT ALL.

The car was a Citreon saxo VTS.

Got to San Remo to watch the WRC Rally and walked into a restaurant stinking and very tired and the whole Subaru Rally team inc. Colin McRae and Nicky Grist sat at the next table, made the trip worthwhile....

Swindon to Paris and back in 23 hours, including going for a meal and some beers, a trip up the eiffel tower, and loading up with ale on the way home. Even managed to work 3 hours sleep into the schedule.

I regularly do Scunny to Dover, then Calais to Limoges in one go, and the reverse.

The bit in France is about 450 miles and is easy, even the bits( about 100 miles) on main roads and through towns. I sometimes see one speed trap.

The bit in England is 240 miles. It's all motorway/dual carriageway except the first/last 40 which are on a lightly used back road. I go through one smallish market town, Gainsborough. To be honest, the journey's a pain. It's ALMOST worth the ridiculous fares from Hull to Zeebrugge to avoid it
And in only 240 miles, there are at LEAST 15 speed cameras in each direction, and that's if there are no long term road works, and no scamera vans/traffic cars

Driving most places in the UK is now a chore, rather than a pleasure. I went over Snake Pass yesterday, beautiful clear bright day. Two miles up the pass, I caught up with an artic, with another lorry behind it, and 8 cars. I finally got past the queue 2 miles from Glossop We went at 25-30mph all the way A complete pain!

Mine has got to be this years east coast charity run!

I left Haywards Heath near Gatwick to take my girlfriend to work in Brighton, then drove from there to meet the essex crew at lakeside, then onto Ipswich, then onto Yarmouth, then all the way around the Norfolk coast on tiny twisty lanes.
Eventually ended up back at my parents house in Colchester after completing approx 350 miles!
I was absolutely shattered and i was stone deaf!
