How do sump guards fit to the vehicle then? I assume they're bolted to the engine using bolts that hold something else on? In this case hoe do tyey now wreck whatever its mounted to if you hit the guard.

Complex I know but you see what I'm getting at!

The reason I ask is that I'm considering having one made for my car but am not sure how best to attach it.

Any pictures would be most useful.

Nooo. Not to engine! To mounting points, usually reinforced on body. Often bar accross front. Contact a rally preparation firm first. Or Demon Tweeks.

Not rallying, no but access to our new hose is down a farm type track with ruts for the wheels and a big lump in the middle. The grass keeps the underside of the car nice and clean but thats about the only good thing. All it would take is a pot hole on one side and anyhting on the udnerside could hit the deck!

That's like road rallying then! Take the lane slow. Sumpguard might be idea then. Remember though lots of other bits under to get banged, that's why rally cars often have (expensive) complete guarding under.

Best to speak to someone with experience of fitting sumpguards to car type you have.
Just thought, when you sell car, sumpguard or evidence of might affect value for worse. If you do fit one try to do it so you can remove it and mountings such that it's all back to standard.

When you fit one it will be lower than the current lowest point on the engine/transmission, so you will find you bottom out more, albeit it's designed to take the knocks which your engine isn't. Alternatively just take it slower and drive on the side of the wheel tracks instead of in the bottom of them, that will give you additional clearance.
