Think it's kinda funny that no-one has actually answered his question, which I took to be..."If I took my car into a car wash, would my Spoiler be ok?" Everyone banged on about paintwork etc, but he's still none the wiser

Anyone done it then? I'd I've thought the sensors on the carwash would cause the brushes to avoid the spoiler but you wouldn't get a very clean boot.
Anyway handwash it you lazy sod As mentioned a million times before petrol station carwashes / jetwashes are not good as they recycle the water. If the filters aren't changed regularly then there will be loads of fine grit in it = swirly paintwork.

I think in all fairness the reason I was laffing was the seemingly silly nature of the post .
however .......... I would never contemplate putting any car of mine through a car wash. You always end up with new scratches. They get the jet wash rinse sometimes, but NEVER the brush for the same reasons.
If you want to mark your car marked car washes are the way forward .........

IIRC alot of carwashes recommend that Rover 200's dont use their facilities as they are succeptible to having the spoiler ripped off - dunno if its because they're on top of the hatch or they have weak fixings but its not recommended either way.
Personally I wouldn't chance it

The wash was crap though, and then I remembered the scratches I had once off a car wash and vowing never to go through one again....ooops. The wheels, bottom half of doors and boot were far from perfectly clean.

aside from the wing, whats the big deal with taking it through a car wash, it's only a bloody car! I certainly don't spend my weekends polishing it and waxing it, come on you will probably keep it a few years and sell it, and when you sell it it makes absolutely no difference to the price, a few scratches here and there.

When I buy a 2nd hand car it's the first thing I look for.
Don't take care/ignorance of the bodywork usually means the same for the mechanicals. I can spot a regulary car washed car a mile off.
£1000 off the asking price please or I walk away

As for giving him a break, I've known him for years and can safely say that the best advice, in this case, is to shout:
"GET YOUR LEGS OFF THE SOFA AND WASH IT BY HAND, YOU IDLE CHUFFER"
Chop chop Gav!!

I never use a commercial car wash.
The detergents they use are ****e as they strip all the wax (If you wax it).
Also the brushes are never rinsed properley leaving the last cars dirt all over
them to act as a peice of sand paper (Seen those lovely swirl marks all over
your paintwork)
Hand wash it yourself bud, i use Meguiars soft gel followed by the new NXT
wax.
Comes up lovely !!!

I don't spent hours washing my cars and hardly ever wax however so many people think I do (or the cars had a respray) because without all the swilry scratches the paint work shines.
If you stop and look at the piles of crap waiting for carwashes with rust and ****e that gets stuck in the brushes you might think twice.
Although I bet your the type who just washes out the sponge when you drop it on the driveway!

If it wasn't for the wing my car would definately be going through the car wash. I just think at the end of the day it makes so little difference. I mean, I've had it a year, lost about 11k on it already, can't help but think even if it had been going through a car wash would have made absolutely no difference to the value. Some of the new washes are actually pretty decent.
