Removing Tar spots from the car

Default Removing Tar spots from the car

Hi All,

Can anyone recommend a cleaning product that will remove tar spots from my Scoob. I gave it a clean yesterday and noticed that I have several on the wheel arches. Some of them are quite visiable so I would realy like to get them off without messing up the paintwork.

Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover - wouldn't be without it

I always use a tiny bit of white spirit but make sure to wash it down with plenty of soap and water afterwards!

Don't use a tar removal product, or white spirit, these will damage your paintwork. Instead use a small amount of Flora (the margarine spread). Dab it on the tar spots & rub gently with your finger. Then have a coffee for 10 mins & then polish off using a clean cotton cloth. The tar comes off easily, no damage to your paintwork & it's very cheap! You'll use less than a tea spoon of the stuff.

Idea passed to me by Mark Underwood aka the Wax Wizard.

Please explain how a well lubricated clay bar will damage the paintwork ?

Mer polish does it for me, but does use up time and elbow grease.

Clay bar is good too.

Last time I used Autoglyms tar remover it left my paint cloudy where I had used it and it kept coming back after polishing for about a year before it stopped. Suffice to say I won't be using that again

Standard Autoglym polish. TBH it's all I use it for now, tar removal and bee poo!!!!
That's since using zymol as the cleanse/wax.

With spots or blobs you may well be right. With 'smears' of tar and the like, WD40 will shift it.
