Question Couple of questions regarding a MY00 Turbo ?

Hi Gang,
I have had a look at a MY00 UK Turbo this morning, am I right in thinking that these are the final of the classic face lift models and will have 4 pots fitted and also a smoother delivering turbo than the ealier models ?
The one big question I have is at what mileage or service interval do these need cam belt changes ? this one has 43,000 on the clock.
Do all the classics have 6 month service intervals too ??

Is there anything else I really need to consider while looking at this late classic model ?

Thanks
Simon

Oh by the way part ex prices are really crappy still

As far as im aware yes the MY00 was the last model, some late registered upto 51 reg i believe, and as already said 6month/7500 for interim services. They do indeed have 4 pots too. The smoother delivery comes from a smaller turbo which helps reduce lag.

Excellent thanks for the replys

This may not have had the cambelt change as yet then.... I'll check that out as I imagine it is not a cheap service.
I only do around 8,000 a year so it would fall 6 monthly for me.

Thanks
Simon

doesn't it also have a different ECU that makes it a bit smoother than the MY99? (sure someone smart knows)

The MY00's have the AE802 ECU, which is PANTS! Change it to an AE801/800 and it'll be a much livelier car to drive with no MPG penalty either. The AE802 was put in to ease emissions and apease the Green Party

Silver Scooby Sport – yes the MY00 is the final facelift of the classics.
They can run from V reg to 51 Reg.
They will have 4 pots but so do the MY99’s.
The facelift differences IIRC are Colour coded Mirrors + Door handles, Later style SIX spoke Alloys and ..... Variable windscreen wipers, no less !! – I’m sure there’s more but I can’t remember!

The service schedule is every 6 months or 7.5K miles. (The 6 monthly one is just an oil+filter change at around £90 from a dealer).

The cambelt on a MY00 is scheduled to be changed at the 60K (or 48 months) service. It’s a biggy and cost me about £650 from a Subaru dealer Some do change the belt sooner, as per the MY99 schedule. Nothing wrong with that!

Hope this helps, Carl

Cheers gents

I am assuming that there are no problem areas as such on this model classic that need closer inspection ?

One thing that I have not asked is what is the standard BHP ?

I understood it was a different turbo that made the pick up smoother than ealier models but had not realised that the ECU was different too.... out of curiosity would it be possible just to re-map the ECU rather than change it ?
Is this a cost thing to change rather than re-map, I imagine re-mapping is not cheap these days ?

I'll put my head in the service book and check it right through

The ecu is technically the same as the MY99 but with a slightly different map to the MY99. Bhp is 215 like the MY99.
A remap would be good but you might as well decat for max benefit. Remap will screw you for around £650

TEK2 remap with full decat and panel filter got me 277bhp and 266lb/ft torque at Power Engineering.

as stated, the rollers do differ between places and i think PE's are supposed to be a bit generous, but i would like to think they aren't 20something bhp out

either way, i'm a happy chappy and would recommend it to anyone

Hoskib

didnt mean to sound like a challenge on what you said, I had a remap done at PE with the downpipe. Each little bit helps to add up the BHP. what I was trying to intimate is that you can get good 20% extra without having to start about things going bang

Thanks for the help gents, it's a one owner from new car and all the service history is there to see. The cam belt was changed the service before it was due, very pleased to say that it is completely as standard nothing seems to have been touched on it at all... that way you know what your getting.

I have signed on the line for it this morning and hopefully shall pick it up next weekend.... pictures to follow

Thanks again
Simon

This one is registered at march 2000.... I can't remember exhactly what the service book stated but it was written in on the service before it was due and it was not at 60k in the book, maybe it's as simple as new and old service books in circulation at the same time ?
I did talk to the dealer about it and eveything seems in order.

Thanks
Simon

Mine came with the earlier book - but the dealer I used for my services checked against the chassis number and it was indeed due 60k interval.
