Red face Oh no, CEL light on !!!

Coming home this morning on m-way at about 75 (really !) and the CEL light came on. Immediately reduced speed to keep under boost and came off at the next exit. Pulled over and let it idle for a while, and nothing seemed untowards. Idled at steady revs, no odd noises. Switched her off and she restarted OK, but with the CEL still on. I gently continued home, again with nothing except the CEL causing alarm, and even gently took it into boost just to see if anything happened, but nothing.

Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong Had the 30k service at Scoobyclinic just before Xmas, and have only done about 50 miles or so since. Car is an '03 WRX PPP, standard except for JR Racing filter. Was gonna phone the dealer, but I then realised that it's a Bank Holiday and they probably aren't open

I had the same thing with my MY99 - turned out to be a Lambda sensor.

However, it could be even simpler, such as something becoming disconnected.

I'd not drive it until tomorrow now.....

Sounds like one of the ECU sensors has died.

My STi 8 did the same a few months back - it was the crank position sensor. 20 minutes in the dealer and it was sorted.

My 1st thoughts were MAF, Lambda and CPS. The CPS would make sense as they disconnect that when priming after an oil change, so it might not be properly reconnected, or disturbing it may have highlighted a failing component maybe.

Are the dealers definately closed

Thanks for the responses

Give them a bell after 9 and see?

I would have thought the sales bit would be open, but the service bit might be a different story.

Not saying this applies to yours but mine's a 04 WRX PPP and had the same thing happened. Dealer replaced the Wastegate Solinoid as this was the error code on the ecu but cel still came on occasionally. Turned out to be a Known problem with the ppp ecu program that Subaru Tecnical dept knew about. Ecu was replaced and now all is well

Dave, nip up to well lane, I think they charge £30 for fault diagnosis, I had this fault on mine, nothing untoward ,car ran fine but a CEL on. It turned out to be the lambda which I got a replacement from Beeston motor spares (cant remember price but it was cheap)

Cheers Phil. I'll let dealer look at under warranty 1st, if it has to be paid for I'll pursue other avenues. I used to get no. plates from BMS, £5 each
