Question What's in a PPP

Hi,

I had a look in the search and couldn't find anything.

What does the PPP for the 02 STI consist of? Is it ECU, fuel pump and backbox, or is there a center section as well?

Thanks.

Barry,

Bear in mind that with the 02STI, there were two different versions of the PPP ECU, one was the piggyback item, the other was the remapped ECUTEK item.

Plus, I didn't receive a certificate with my installation, and as far as I know they don't/didn't exist with the STI.
I still think that there's something on the centre section aswell - some sort of mine silencer.

What is the price? Is it worth it? And what do you mean one was piggybacked and one was ECUTEK?

lol. Might be worth checking with your insurance company how much extra they'll sting you for. Depending on your age it can be quite a lot!

I'm not sure if it's correct or not to be honest. I know the PPP on the earlier cars were a seperate chip that "piggybacked" on the original ECU. On the later cars, including i thought MY02 the ECU was exchanged with one that Prodrive had re mapped with the ECUTEK system.

Its a cat, in the downpipe, that flows exhaust gas more efficiently than a standard cat = less back pressure = more oomph!

No, i did look into getting one for my MY02 WRX last spring. The dealer suggested i try the STi as well. I prefered that (with the PPP) but the insurance was silly money. I think it put the cost up from £1600 for the WRX to £2200 for the STi PPP.

I ended up buying one of those dreadful, much maligned WR1's in the end! That was about £450 a year less to insure than the STi PPP would have been!!!

Not all of the MY02 STI's were piggybacked ECU's, but you're right, the very early PPP units were like these.

I didn't PPP my car until the start of Apr 2003, and from what I gather I may have just about been the first of the new ECU's.
