Harness for WR1 ?
Hi there Scooby peeps,
been a while since I've been here, not really had the time, been playing in the car :>)
Anyway, I'm looking at getting a couple of harnesses fitted to my WR1 and was after some advice.
No one goes in the back seats, for me it's a 2 seater car so bolting the harnesses in is not an issue.
I want quality, FIA approved.
Any tips ?

Heres a thought.
You roll your car and the roof deforms - and because you have a full harness, you stay perfectally in place......not good at all!
With a standard seat belt in place, you would have some movement.

your insurance would not lkie it at all i presume,i thought for regs the harnesses had to bolt to chassis ie where the seats are.
if they only bolt to frame of seat i would presume they are not as safe

I would think it's a lot safer, or we would see the seat belt on all racing cars.
Better not to be thrown around in the car, atleast thats my feeling. Mind you I don't plan on rolling anything.
cheers Phil, sounds like Gangster has more cosmetic harnesses.
I'll be asking my insurance company as well.

I guess it's going ot be one of them subjects that goes around in circles, one thing I don't want to do is fit a cage, but I do want the harness feel to stop me moving around in the seat.
Insrance company, Direct Line are ok with it as well, it's legal and they see as a mod but does not add anything to the premium, they just need to be notified in-case the car needs replacing.

I think there is an alternative.....
Its a fairly cheap device that locks the seatbelt....i got an email from goldtrack about it.
However they dont look as bling as a nice harness do they

to clear some stuff up .... Clive you have PM.
My harnesses are full FIA approved and are the best that money can buy - they are exactly what are used in the rally cars and are the absolute nadgers.
Regarding rolling the car. To do that on a track you obviousely are not in control of the car and don't deserve to be on the track - therefore it wouldn't be an issue.
Thirdly when you use harnesses you appreciate how ****e seatbelts actually are - so I would recommend them completely on the safety fact alone.
Anybody who knows me will tell you that whatever I put on my car is nothing but the best ... for something like seatbelts and other safety devices to fit cosmetic stuff would be utter madness!!!!!!

This has been discussed many times by people who go to the ring and do track days.
I apprecaite what you are saying about if you crash you should not be there in the first place.....BUT on 2 seperate trackdays at Donington (one was an SIDC day) cars rolled............it does happen!

Chassis mate ... no point otherwise. To be honest I prefer wearing the harness now. You don't move about at all and get a much better feeling for the car. Yeh it's overkill for the road but so are most mods ... on track is where they make the difference though.
I've found that it when reversing you basically need to loosen them because you you can't move around. But they are all on quick release and quick ratchets so can be adjusted very very very quickely if you need to move.
PMSL at Urban ... I am petter solberg - didn't you know!

They way I drive my car, you don't even need seat belts :>>>>>))))
It gets above 4000 occasionally, that's when it's allowed out of the garage lol
I think the right foot remembers the P1 and doesn't want to push the pedal to hard

No one goes out with the intention of rolling their car but like it has been said, it happens. Gravel traps flip cars all to easily and if you hit someone else, they hit you, bang, you could be over.

Thats understandable......... just so everyone know...............
IAIN is a P1 KILLER, there's one less because of his itchy right foot, just make sure you don't kill the WR1, ok.

Well the tree helped
Just doing my bit to make the P1s a bit rarer.
Oh I'm doing my best to make sure the WR1 stays on the road. Probably being a bit too carfeful and not enjoying the car enough. I'll have to drive it a lot more before I get to the harness stage

No need to set any track records but gives the WR1 an oppertunity to stretch her legs.......... with no trees about either :>)

Just what I was thinking, airfield........... then there's plenty of run off space.... no gravel traps (won't roll the car) and she WILL come home with out any damage..

the first week a bloody stone did one of my driving lights............. since then it's been only 2 tyres, nail in one and a screw in another.
I've not seen any light covers, would be intrested if anyone can find any, the lights are about £130ish each I think.
