Importing a scoob direct ??

Hi guys
Was wondering if any1 or knows anyone who imported a scoob direct from Japan
Whats the process/ whats involved ?
Thinking you could snag a good bargin ... >>> cutting out the middle man so to speak
Have come across a site which does I Think ..............

Also some sweet looking scoobs .....From what I can gather the bidding starts VERY LOW !!
IBC Export Charges: 75000
Freight & Export M3~10: 67000
Distant Transport: 11000
Total C&F Bid: 153,000 yen
Make any sense?

The car will take about two months to arrive in the UK and then customs will have to clear it (another 7-10 days). Once this is done you can have Awesome Imports tax and MOT the car (at an extra cost), or have it delivered and sort it out yourself. I did the latter.
The car needs a fog light for the MOT but that's it. Insure it on the chassis number, MOT it, then take all the doc to the tax office for registration (£38) and tax. This takes about three working days. Once this is all done then you are on your way.
The car cost £2000, shipping £1250, Tax/MOT/Registration £170 so it is a bit cheaper than buying one second handin the UK.
The only problem being is that the car now needs a new clutch (it was juddering on receipt of the car) and Awesome Imports have no return/compensation policy. But, the car was very cheap.

I've bought loads from Japan.
It's possible to save a bit of cash but obviously the risk is you don't get to see the car apart from pictures. I get my cars inspected but it's not a full inspection.

Dont deal with IBC under any circumstances. Search t'internet fro IBC UK and draw your own conclusions who was winding back odometers and tarting the shrapnel they were importing..... but ultimately whether it was done in Japan or here they were crooks.

This is what you should be paying for; say a 1993 Impreza bought for ¥300,000in a REAL auction; not a bogus one:
Car: ¥300,000
Transport,disbursements (de-reg and stevadoring etc) & commission: ¥90,000
Shipping: $715
Duty & VAT: £700
Port & Clearance: £110
Total: £3210

Its difficult; youd need an agent in Japan and people wont tell you whom they deal with as theyd lose their commercial advantage.

DONT EVEN CONSIDER DEALING WITH THAT COMPANY; hopefully thats clearer.
When a car is entered into a Japanese auction it is appraised by a Govt. approved inspector. The mileage and condition will be exactly as described on the appraisal sheet, with every scratch dent and tear listed. With few exceptions the ONLY place to buy cars is through the auctions; you know what youre getting and over 60,000 cars are auctioned every week; the choice is huge.

I have had an account with ibc for a while but not bought anything, they also have a link to idirect which means that you can buy from the auctions including FOB.
I fancy getting an fto to run around in as they are going for 500-1000 quid, plus all the other vat etc.
Was it only cars that they had brought over themselves that were fiddled with?.

A couple of years ago IBC had a UK subsidiary who no longer trade; they folded under a cloud with both sides accusing the other of altering the odometer readings; the cars were rubbish. I doubt that we'll find out who actually 'did it' but if it wasnt the Japanese side of the Co then they were sending over the poor cars which were later flicked.....
I dont have any experience of iDirect but Id be extremely careful if they're part of the same firm. There are a lot of bogus auctions to be found on the internet too, though Im not saying that this is one. You should have access to the auction appraisal sheet; if you only consider 'Grade 4's you should be OK; Grade 3.5 cars can be as good where their 'mileage' is over 100K Kms.
With regard to buying a 'runaround'; whilst you can get a DE2a or perhaps a DE3a FTO for under ¥200,000 it will cost over £3,000 to land here and register.
Make sure that anything you buy comes on a Yuwa ship because their agents here will include marine insurance for £10, other shipping lines dont ; itll cost a lot more and it isnt easy to arrange. Someone mentioned a ship sinking; if this happens when your car is on board and the ships insurers call 'general average' youre in trouble; you may have to contributes thousands of pounds to the salvage operation.

I imported my sti from the states, so i could tell you all about that. I am over in europe for 2 more months and will sell mine if your interested. But its a 2005 model 300 HP, left hand drive ofcourse.

You can buy direct from auctions but I wouldn't. Of the 100 or so cars I've gone for about 75 haven't been up to scratch. They look good on paper but up close there not so good.
You really do need a good agent in Japan to save any money.
Prices vary a lot. So you could be spending more anyway.
I can keep an eye out for you if you let me know what you are after. Drop me a PM. At the very least I can get you some details of cars at auction and the reasons why I didn't go for them.
Ironicaly alot of the cars I like, get,passed over by my buyers in Japan as not good enough but I always see them on UK importers sites. Makes for interesting reading.
