Default Stupid question ???

I currently have Pirelli P Zeros (205/45 17's) fitted to my scoob and the 2 front tyres need to replaced - just failed MOT on them.

Now I would really like to get the Toyo Proxes as I've heard good things about them but the size for these are 215/40 17.

Would it be OK to replace just the fronts ie different sizes front and back???? or should I replace the P Zeros with another couple of P Zeros!!

Thanks

Width wise the different size won't be to much of a problem but reducin the profile will affect the rolling radius of the wheel and thus affect the gearing and therefore the speedo reading on the car, probably not by much though. Are u sure it's not possible to get toyo's in 45 profile?

I would'nt want to put odd size tyres on my car The toyos are available in your original size. If you want a lower profile then its got to be a set in my opinion.

Fitting 215/40 to the fronts means the rolling radius of the fronts will be smaller than the backs if you leave those at 205/45 ..... that is not a good idea on a scoob as the centre diff is going to be constantly compensating for the difference in wheel speeds front to rear ... if the rears have plenty of tread left on them then replace the fronts with Pirellis, not a good to have different tyres front to rear either unless you know and want the difference in grip that each make gives you.... other wise change all 4

The effective rolling diameter of the tyre is based on the ratio between the width and the profile i.e as the width increases so the profile gets smaller to maintain a similar rolling diameter.
A tyre dealer should be able to confirm the rolling diameters of various tyres and hence you could make an informed adjustment to the indicated (probably already optimistic) speedo reading if needed.
However I would not want to put wider new rubber on front with worn rears in winter -that's asking for trouble. a set of either is best.
