Default Trading in an Import

Will all main dealers allow you to trade in an imported car?

Depends on where you are trading it. Some main dealers wont touch Jap imports and im not just talking about Subaru dealers either.

If I was therefore to buy an import now and at a later date decided to change for it for a different manufacturers car, am I right in saying that if I was to trade it in I will have problems whether it with a subaru dealer or at a car supermarket?

A Uk car will always be a better trade in. Its what the delaer has in his glasses guide and it has a uk 3 year warranty. An import doesnt have the same warranty and isnt recognised by the dealer so therefore he will more than likely 'try it on' slightly or not want your car full stop. I had the same scenario when i tried to trade in on a VXT a month ago.

If the imported car comes with a 3 year manufactures warranty, isn't this warranty the same as one you get when purchasing a car from a main dealer?

I think you will find the warranty from non uk dealers are a different warranty and possibly not through IM who deal with the UK cars. Someone else will answer that for sure, but I know mine wasn't.

The fact of the matter is that on trade in a dealer will prefer a UK car and thats that.

Marlbarough Scooby in Isleworth West London were happy to take my WRX Euro Import against an STI - they seemed only too happy to do a deal
