Scooby snobbery?
I sometimes feel that I am looked down on by some other Scooby drivers.
I am 23 and have a 1994 WRX. Not the most exclusive of Imprezas but I like it!
Not too sure if everyone just thinks I am a boy-racer (Which I'm not!!) or whether they feel superior in their WR1s and 22Bs (bit of jealousy on my part!!) but anyone in a newer car or out of thier twenties just seems to dismiss me out of hand.
Several of my friends have also noticed this. So anyone else experienced this or are we all just being paranoid???

I just bought my missus a new Galaxy and it cost way more than my '03 Scooby, does that mean she looks down on me or I should look down on you ?? ....... I think not
What really annoys me is this "feud" between Evo and Scoob owners, If I see another performance car I always give a flash, whether it's an old scoob, CTR, Evo, Skyline, Cossie etc etc, to me they are all part of the "club" so to speak.

LOL they can look down me for running a classic if they want but
1) I am run 320-330bhp
2) I own it out right, its mine not the banks, no loan, no finance
3) Its sonic blue with gold wheels, Subaru signature colours
4) oh and there are less 20 in country of this particular model
They are all good motors but I prefer to drive a classic.

How have you come to draw your conclusion..? Is it because other Scoob' owners simply don't acknowledge you..? If so, remember that it's not always possible to flash or wave, especially if your attention is on the road and other things.
I've come from MR2 circles where fellow MkIIers would flash and wave at each other... very odd I thought at first, until I got into the habit myself. Scooby owners seem even more friendly though, irrespective of age, colour, UK, JDM, standard, or mentally modded. When the wife got her MY01 WRX I couldn't believe how nearly every Impreza would say "hello".
When I recently picked up my then standard MY00 from Chelmsford, I felt a bit embarassed driving it home in the shadow of the wife's WRX with her 18in wheels and Prodrive exhaust... yet a sensibly modified new-age STi gave me a wave and chose to cruise in last place making it a 3-car convoy.
Impreza owners... damn friendly bunch we all are... but not always able to say "hello".

There's no doubt about it!
Some will look down on you regardless of your car, your clothes and anything else they may think they have better than you.
One or two of the 'specialists' won't really be interested in your custom either. If you pull up in a brand new STi they'll be rolling out the red carpet and offering to lick your shoes clean - not likely if you turn up in a 94 WRX! Some will know who I'm talking about.
A friend of mine is worth a lot of money and can't find enough things to spend it on. A whole set of his everyday clothes, including shoes, wouldn't cost more than £10. He 's been turned away from shops where they assume he wouldn't have a pot to p155 in. Shame they lose his business really when he could buy a couple of WR1s and not even touch the bank balance enough to notice.
What you have to remember as well - those who give the impression they've got money and think they're better than anyone else are not necessarily any better off than Joe Average. I find the ones who brag about money don't actually have any.

I wave to all scoobs regardless of type or age providing i've seen them. At the end of the day you purchase what you can afford at the time. Doesn't make you better or worse than the next person. Some people prefer to have older classics due to preference and may not like the new age scoobs.
Don't let this become a them and us within the scoob circle otherwise you will always see a new age scoob and decide not to acknowledge them.

Nothing at all wrong with an early WRX
All depends on what sort of state it's in though I suppose. If it's tastefully modded (or not at all) then I'm sure nobody will look down on you ...
If however your running 18" gold fox alloys, a 6" drainpipe out the back, lexxus style lights and those hideous graphics behind the front wheel down your door and insist on driving everywhere at full speed with your windows down and some dance crap blaring out your sub in the boot then .... well I'm sure you can guess the rest.

However, I don't drive everywhere at full speed, rarely have the window down and the sub in the boot is a little one and normally pumps out a bit of The Streets at the moment.
Oh and I'm 35, a lecturer with 2 kids.
Do I qualify for a wave????
I could afford a newer car but choose not to. Love my car, and I think it looks great, and certainly goes it with 270-280bhp.
However, back to the point. I find a lot more classic drivers wave than new age. I'll wave to anyone, but I have missed some peeps waving to me when I have been looking elsewhere etc.

I had a very noticable MY01 Impreza for nearly 2 years and decided to change to my present car (EVO VII) just for something different.
theres not as many Evos on the road as Scoobs ,so I dont expect to get many waves, but I still give a wave to all the above if I spot them
buy the car you can afford and enjoy it , keeping it clean and tidy costs nothing

I drive a classic, the only waves i get back are from other classic drivers. Its very rare I get a wave back form newer shape impreza drivers, rather embarrasing after you make the first wave and get no response.
Why is a Impreza a Chav car?
Round here there called a 'Paki wagons'...because lots of asians drive them...I'm one of them and not bothered at all.

I agree to a certain extent.I have a 9 year old WRX and i am 31 years old.
I just think that some older Scoobs are falling into the hands of a disreputable few who give everyone a bad name and then everyone is tarred with the same brush.
Be confident enough to be proud of your car and not dwell on what others think of you or it,at the end of the day if you enjoy it then good on you.
Decent folk will always relate to anyone of any age with any car, don't let minority snobs grind you down.
Not worthy of recognition or a wave?
Paul.

Boll0x to what other people think!
It is what you like.....
You should hear the ribbing I am getting for buying a Subaru! I do not care, I want one and I am having one!
They are asking me when I am getting my furry dice etc...

Varies from day to day. Sometimes I get rude gestures etc... other times I'll get nice comments, thumbs up etc. I've noticed that the ladies seem to like em though, which is nice. Must be the gold wheels ;-)
Personally, I'll wave to any Scooby/Evo/Supra/Fiat Panda......er, well, maybe not that! :-)
Best.

I've only had my car (new WRX Sti) since December and didn't realise about this waving thing, although having a bike previously used to give me neck ache nodding to fellow bikers. I don't think it's snobbery - sometimes I'm just concentrating and don't get my hand up in time and I think its the same for others.
I'm 44 with 3 kids but more than happy to acknowledge anyone with a proper car.....

I have an 04 plate sti type uk and I love it. I always acknowledge other scooby's regardless of what type of scooby they drive. I dont ever think I am better than someone else because my scooby is newer....before this I had a 400bhp F-reg Sapphire Cosworth and felt king of the road!!!

I think that it tends to be the older folk who dont wave back. When my dad got his car on the road, we were on th emotorway and saw a MY03 red impreza wrx and the driver looked about 23-25, got a wave AND a nod of the head! (and a little show of what the cars can do - wont go into that) Then about 10 minutes later, we went past a guy in a MY04 blue sti and he looked around 40+, dint even get a first glance, never mind a wave or anything else.
Yeah khany i know what you mean, my mates grandad who lives next door to us said to my dad "why have you bought a druggys car for." So my dad had to convice him he was clean haha. Its mainly the criminal kind that buy these cars for a quick get away and to show off to the "gang" on the end of their street, wish they would choose something else to do it in.
You can all wake up now.....:P
