NEED HELP IDENTIFYING 'STi' SCOOBY
Hi all,
This is a colleague's Japanese import Impreza. He's had it for a couple of years and is interested in selling it. However, between him and me we're not sure exactly what version, spec, etc. it is!
I've driven loads of Scooby's - and this one feels 300bhp, meaning the pink STi badge on the grille ain't just a badge. I think it's also got the SureTrac diff. It's also got a 6-sp box.
Can anyone help identify it?
See it at:

Hope you can help. The car will be up for sale on this site soon. It's got an interesting history, so watch this space...

Looks like a bog standard STi 7. I could be wrong but it will be circa 265bhp if unmodified and the 6 speed box is standard on all STi 7's. The problem (not always a problem) with jap stuff is you never know exactly what has been modded or who by.

Look at the pictures :
1) Its a Y reg so it cant be a UK STI as they didnt appear until 2002
2) Could be an import MY01 JDM STI (rated at 276bhp) but I thought it had a bigger spoiler and different lights.
TBH looks like a WRX to me jdm one was 245bhp iirc, but has a different exhaust, so could have mods on top.
Maybe wrong though

Thanks for the replies. In response to the above - it's got Brembos.
It is a Jap import, but no mods have been carried out in the UK. The exhaust (well, the tailpipe) is STi branded.
Does anyone know if I can track down the exact type via the engine/chassis numbers?
Cheers,

On the classics, the Sti's all had red manifolds. Don't know about the new ages though.
The max revs on the tacho would help, or the number of the turbo would probably give it away to someone in the know.

THE MANIFOLD IS ALSO RED AND THE TACHO RUNS TO 9K. DOES THIS MEAN WE'RE LOOKING AT AN STI HERE? IF SO, CAN ANYONE GIVE ME THE SPEC/FIGURES ON THIS CAR?
THE CAR FEELS TWEAKED - BUT NOT IN AN 'AFTERMARKET' WAY. IT'S GOT BREMBOS, AN STI BACKBOX, AND FEELS AROUND 300BHP. WAS THERE A PERFORMANCE PACK AVAILABLE FOR THIS CAR IN JAPAN - KINDA LIKE WHAT PRODRIVE DO OVER HERE?

With the model code, red top andf tacho it does sound like an STI then.
Import officially they should 280ps (276bhp) on Japanese fuel, rumours of 300ps (295bhp) though.
Remap them for UK fuel and well over 300bhp closer to 330bhp tbh.
Due to gearing and more power they will be quick than a standard UK STI.
My advice would be to remap it for £600-£700 and have the fuel safety and more power.

In order to identify whether it's a JDM STi by visual inspection (i.e. b4 lifting the bonnet to see mdl code):
Pink 'i' badge on grill
No 'SUBARU' inscription on bootlid
8000rpm redline
6-speed gearbox etc.
Btw, early JDM New Age WRX only had 2-pot brakes, & xenon lamps are optional on both WRX & STi (hence those lights).
