Anyone know if there are road traffic laws governing rally style decals/numbering?

Ive searched on the tinternet but cant find owt.

only thing i know of is if your displaying numbers they should be crossed through use a black insulation tape or similar

 

As I understand it, and I may well be corrected, but I thought that the numbers only needed to be crossed out if you have a competition license.......

I had numbers on an old Mini I had, and even when I got pulled plod said nowt!!

 

proper rally car's when driving between stage's (network Q) don't need to be crossed out and they have to be road legal, so i don't think so IMO
