Advice Needed: 10K Service: Dealer or Independent?
Scoobynetters... I need your advice... my car has just hit 10K and need to get it booked in for a service.... Do I need to be taking it to the dealers where i bought it or can I take it to an independent Specialist? I've got Scoobyclinic close to me and I've heard good things about them?
Cheers,
gso

It depends.....
Manufacturers aren't allowed to lock you in these days for the "new car" warranty they offer on the vehicle when it's sold. As always there are grey areas such as quality of workmanship and parts etc. Car manufacturers are bigger than the average household should it come to a fight.
Extended warranties are something else. I think they're within their rights to insist the work is carried out with in the network or void the warranty.

just spoke to the dealers.... quoted me £191 inclusive of VAT... they insist that using a non authorised dealer will invalidate my warranty... but then again they would say that
Still... shudnt take risks i guess.... even though i'd like to have spent the extra £100 i'm paying on some gadgety bits

Mine is booked in at my local main dealer tomorrow for the 10k service and they quoted me £130 all in but I asked them if I could provide my own oil as I want to put fully synth in, no problem sir go to your dealer and talk to them , you know it makes sence + you get the stamp in the service book .

As long as you get it serviced at a VAT registered garage and genuine parts are used there is no problem they will have to stand by the warrenty. The 10000 mile service basically means oil & filter change, swap the wheels front to rear and a load of old flannel to try and justify the cost JASON

Just had the same debate myself and came to the conclusion that provided that you choose your specialist carefully and use genuine parts Subaru would be hard pressed to wriggle out af a genuine warranty claim. Hence my 2004 WRX went to Xtreme Scoobies for its 20k service on Wednesday. At 20k miles per year, or 2 services, that adds up to a hefty saving. these cars are expensive enough to run as it is, you accept that when make the choice, without lining the dealers pockets.
I have just made the change after ~9 years of using the same Subaru dealer but when an interim service cost almost doubled between the GL and WRX I decided that was enough
For what its worth £180+ appears par for the course for a dealer interim service
