I'm booked on the driving course on 30th Sept. & 7th Oct. and would appreciate some general info. as follows:
Idea of travelling time from Kidderminster to arrive for 9am. ( Autoroute gives 2.5hrs @ 162 miles, is this about right ?)
I will not be taking my own car, so I presume just meet up with everyone else at the training school.
Am I allowed to bring anyone with me or is the course for me only.
What are the usual arrangements for lunch.
The finish time for day one is given at 5 pm, is this about right.

Hope someone whos been can answer some or all of my queries, for a driving school virgin.

Many Thanks in advance

P.S. any other virgins going on the 30th.??

1) Based on courier driving experience, expect an Av Speed of 50 mph over distance. (It is obviously poss to drive faster but a general av over the year in all driving conditions will be around that). Also, you get out of Autoroute the information u put in.
2) I believe the course is for you only, but if wife/partner, allowance may be made. Ask.
3) Dick will advise a selection of local establishments catering for all tastes & budget.
4) My day one finished around 16.00 - may vary according to how many stories Dick tells

Enjoy

Simon, I took part in the course a couple of weeks ago.

Lunch, convoy to the local McDonalds or Sainsburys (depends on your choice)

Travelling time, pass. I've never been to Kiddy, should do really as I've got relations there.

Finishing time. The first day was about 4-4:30, the second day depends on how much is left to cover. We finished at lunchtime.

Hope this is of help.

Danny

Thanks for the info.

Robski
Best advice to get a place on the course is to write to the club address FAO Richard Grimes. He will then advise you when a place is available.

Cheers

Having just joined the SIDC, I've got a form to return to confirm my interest in a course. Can anybody tell me . . . . how often they are run? Are they run on a Saturday or midweek? Is it one day or two separate days, or two consecutive days? It it only Scooby drivers that attend? Is it worth doing?

Bring; usually only spouse.
Lunch; directions given to nearby corner shop/supermkt /Macs/ sandwich shop etc
Finishes; Day 1 1630, Day 2 1200

Run weekends, 1.5 days
Only SIDC members and spouse (I believe)
Worth doing; YES!

All from my humble experience earlier this year, so E&OE!

Typical, I was booked on the next set and got a letter with True Grip stating that the course Simon is on (30/9 & 7/10) will be the last one. Dick Grimes is standing down from the SIDC and consequently will no longer be running these superb courses I've been waiting so long for.

If you're not booked on the next course then you're not going to get booked on nay more cos the next one is the last. Unfortunately, Richard Grimes has resigned from SIDC and it seems one of the prices we pay for that is that the driving courses will not be held any longer. See 'True Grip' flyer for more details

Thumbs down

So it's official? There were rumours on here recently. I think it's a real shame . End of an era.

Dick's resignation has nothing to do with the discontinuation of the driving courses.

New "top brass" in the police HQ have looked at the course and are being cautious hence no more.

Fret not, at the top of the SIDC agenda is a replacement course as the SIDC is the *ONLY* club to offer driver training !!
