Bonnet Vent Help
Hi,
looking for some advice, on 1997+ impreza's with the facelift bonnet, the 2 smaller vents on each side have a blanking plate underneath, i was thinking of installing an induction kit and removing this so free air could flow onto the filter, but will this end up being more of a hinderance than a help??
thanks...

I don't think any significant amount of air will get through the vent... even if it did it's a forced induction motor so you would not notice any gains unless running mega bhp.
Be warned the MAF sensor on the classic impreza's are prone for failuare and can lead to unexpected and costly repairs (i.e. new engine!) stick with a panel filter, far safer, equal gains and you still increase the induction noise

buy the induction kit and remove the vent panel.the heat will escape through the vents and when you sit in traffic you see a heat haze over the vents. no air would get into the air filter from that position through the vent so there wont be a performance increase.
my maf sensor had gone and was cutting the engine at 110mph for 2 weeks then 120mph for 2 weeks before i had it replaced after a month of constant high speed thrashing

Sti panel filter...£40 but lasts about 20k miles.
Or unifilter, foam based that can be recleaned over and over.
Thats what I use, Jap Innovations sell them.
My UK car made 287 Bhp with it..(along with Apexi Fc etc, but its a good filter)
