Unhappy another box bites the dust

well looks like the RA gearbox cant handle the bigger power of the td05/06 for long periods so looks like im joining the 6 speed gang

didnt even think the car was driving that fast today but it gave its life at about 5000rpm in 3rd RIP

oops BOB'5 just realised what you meant it was an RA gear set fitted in a 99/00 casing so exactly the same as a 99/00 RA gearset it has lasted a long time on high boost just didnt quite see the distance

PMSFL i was wanting to ask andy if i should fit another RA gearbox complete with 4.44 diffs but the acceleration would of been more metal so i was unsure on how long it would of lasted so i just dug deep and bought the 6 speed

gearbox broke when "steve simpson " was there mapping another car and he rckons that all the 5 speed boxes are the same same materials etc just different ratios, you either have a good one or not mine has lasted on high boost for nearly 1 year so i cant complain. just didnt expect it to go today

I thought the RA gearset in v5 casing would make a good strong box....

or maybe you're just a hooligan at the wheel

got my car mapped by andy at the weekend and it was pulling really well but today it wasnt even driving as well as it has been when it was only 1.45bar peak so i booted the car a few times hoping it would clear its self but i was wrong , the gear box smashed couldnt believe how slow the car was when the gearbox gave up. if it had been pulling hard i would of accepted it, but it was sooo slow i cant believe it failed

andy's 2nd map of 1.1 bar was what the car felt like today even though i swapped between them in the hope the boost would go right if felt more like the avcr wasnt working

Had to laugh Steve. Andy chuckles "He said he wasn't even driving it that fast when it went but I bet he was earlier!"

Concluded "At least it proves it's making good torque figures"..............

Boxes going. Not want you want to hear just before a remap running standard UK box.

Thats not too bad. Is that assuming that the existing gearset is serviceable?

This is the only thing holding me back at the mo from changing turbo etc. Dont want to smash a perfectly good box.

Who did the gearbox build for you?
