Car dinged at dealers.
Whilst my Spec B was in for it's 10,000 service the car was scraped down the near-side door.
I'm 100% positive that the damage was done whilst in the dealers custody, I had hand polished it the previous day and then stuck the car in the garage at home.
I called them about an hour after I picked the car up and they told me to bring it back on Monday afternoon so they could take a look.
Does anybody know for certain if the dealer is liable or whether I need proof in order to make a claim?
It's a shame as it spoilt what had been an otherwise very good visit.

I previously had an issue at the same dealer, kept my cool and the problem was resolved, hence I used them again today on the new car.

The problem with that whole site is there's too much stock and not enough dedicated parking spaces, should customers valuable cars really be crammed into the main car park or into a dedicated section for cars that are in their care and custody before, during and after work has been completed?

Had the same thing done to my MY00 - while in for a service.
Mine was a dent! - yeah you guessed it I hit the roof.
Dont know if it was the colour I turned or the attitude I gave them but the service manager booked the car into the body shop and sorted it (AS GOOD WILL.....However they instisted they didn't do the dent) - I recon it was the little **** who washed my motor.
Obviously since then I never get my car cleaned when it's in for a service. Also do a full walk round of the vehicle pointing out any body marks/dents and have them sign the check sheet. (I learnt my lesson!)
NB: New dealership found

Update,
Olympian finally resolved this issue with a respray to the n/s front door.
Fair play to them, they dinged it, they fixed it (after 8 weeks), well done.

Good to hear that.
As many people in the motor trade can confirm - customers "trying it on" happens almost every week in one way or another.
So when somones car gets damaged and they genuinely have a case - they end up getting the brush off by the garage.

not sure if this is of any help, but when you hire a car, or get a curtesy car they inspect on release and return, the sam IMHO should be done witha customers car, if they havnt they cannot prove that your car had a scratch already, and the customers always right, keep calm and casual but be insistant, if it goes to court the garage cannot provide any proof or documentation that the car was scatched already, but the car was in there possesion so they should be accountable, and im guessing you didnt sign any disclaimers when the car went in
Also ask where the car was kept after and before the service
i always do 2 things
1 inspect before it goes in and then out, that way you can refuse to pay the bill if you find damage etc
2 check the milage incase a mechanic goes out for the day, a road test should be no more than 3 to 5 miles max
just my thoughts
