is it ok to put one new tyre on the rear of a sti type r
the other has done about 5.000 miles?

yes and no

It will effect the cornering of the car but will not damage the diff

Please don't, assuming you mean 5000 miles not 5, not only could it severely effect the handling it can also damage the diff

Impeza tyres should always be replaced in pairs on the same axel.
