Smile New owner

After years of wanting an Impreza i've finally got my hands on one.
Just bought a 2002 WRX from a main dealer. Full history etc....
Pick it up on Saturday so looking forward to next weekend.
When test driving the car it didn't seem as fast as i was expecting based
on published 0-60 times. Salesman said i hadn't driven it properly, not enough right foot!
Really inpressed with seats and driving position, the car felt really good.

What can i expect from owning the car ? (not bothered about running costs, bit late now).

Are there any things i should keep an eye on ?

Any comments welcome.

Very nice. I hope this week goes quickly for you!

They are fairly quick cars off the line but i guess it depends what you are use to. The new age cars are more solid than the classic one thus a bit heavier and don't always give a flat out feeling of speed.

Reading a lot about engine failures, is this mainly linked to imported classics ?

Yup, you should be fine with a standard WRX UK car. I clocked up 34000 miles in mine in the 20 or so months i had it. No major problems.

Run it on SUL or Optimax.

Don't worry about fuel consumption - it will be appalling.

Get used to the handling over a period of time. They grip extremely well, but are not 100% foolproof. When they go, they go in a big way...

Stick to the service intervals - many advise you to change the oil every 5k miles.

Take on every boy racer at the lights - it's your duty...

If you want a fast getaway, you'll have to give it some revs while slipping the clutch for the first few yards Traction is 'too' good in the dry....

Don't worry too much about reliability or thefts. They're thankfully in the minority.

But, if you are worried about the latter, get BlackJax fitted.

PS. Yes, they are quicker than anything but a small minority of cars off the line, but don't expect to pull away from everyone at higher speeds, unless you change down. They are NOT that responsive off-boost.

Nevertheless, they are truly great to drive (unless you're an Evo obsessive... ). I'm sure you'll enjoy it immensely mate.

Oh, and welcome to ScoobyNet, the home of Impreza paranoia....

Thanks for the reponses Harry, like the 'its your duty' bit!!!
Roll on Saturday!
Planning on servicing it every six months for an oil change, could be worth it in the long run.

This week will drag so much mate. Then, from Saturday onwards, the days will belt past....

Once you get used to the 'different' style of driving it, a 'conventional' car will never be enough again....

If you're already aware of the likely running costs and have factored these into your ownership plan, I can more or less guarantee that you'll love it!!!

Currently running a golf v6 4motion so fuel consumption can't be much worse.
Enquired about service costs at dealership and six monthly service £100 with
12 month majors at £200.
2 year warranty with car so hopefully happy motoring ahead.
Love the sound of the boxer engine!! Much better than my v6.

You'll have no problem's, but check the oil every week/fortnight they can use a bit, but don't worry they all seem to.

Blimey mate.... Is that at a Scooby dealership??

If so, we'll all be queuing up behind you!

My last few services (admittedly on a 7,500 service interval) have all been around £180-ish for the intermediate oil change, and £300 or thereabouts for the major services.

There again, I do tend to go through brake pads rather a lot.... Still not sure why....

Many years ago, I used to have a Corrado VR6 and loved the sound, so I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the noise that the V6 4Motion makes...

If you like the boxer sound that much (and yes, it IS good), there'll be thousands along in a minute to advise you on which aftermarket exhaust to get...

That reminds me.... Something else to add to my original list....

You'll end up being bitten by the modding bug. Everyone does. And, if you don't, your new-found ScoobyNet mates will soon convince you...

Service prices where from GMD Subaru in Durham, thought it was too cheap to be true!
V6 engines always sound good. Had a 1.8T golf which sounded nothing!
Only new Subaru is a stainless steel exhaust system. Not sure what type until
i give it the once over at the weekend.
A mate of mine is a tuning fanatic currently driving an Evo 6 with 370BHP.
I wont be going that far!!!!

Might be worth checking with them whether they are including materials in these prices. If so, not bad at all!

Mmm... The 1.8T VAG engine, while efficient and all that, is totally characterless...

When you get the new car, post up what the exhaust is mate. You're bound to get at least a dozen conflicting opinions on what to do with it (if you'll excuse the double entendre...)

Still, we all know that you're in for some good fun!
