TYPE R VERSION 5
Just been to look at swapping my P 96turbo for a T 99 STI WRX Type R.
Can anyone give me the pros and cons on these and what to look out for with imports to do with fuel etc.

Don't forget about 'Mr Insurance Man'!! Your premium will definatley rise.
Great cars though. Getting it re-mapped is a good thing to do.
Had my sti 4 for 15 months and havn't had any problems (grab the oak ) apart from the 'plank' who fitted the after-market steering wheel in Japan. He had stripped the thread on the steering shaft!
Had the shaft changed under warrenty so wasn't to bad. Still, nothing to do with the reliability of the car itself, which has been amazing for a car of this kind.
I havn't had it remapped yet, but I run it exclusivly on optimax with a bit of NF octane booster. I change the oil every 3000miles with Mobil 1 Motorsport 15w50, never really take it past 7000rpm and always let it warm up and cool down properly.
Get one if you can m8, you'll love it!

I used millers octane plus then use NF octane booster. Been a while since I used any though so not sure where to get some from. Make sure it cat friendly though as some arent.
It is a pain using them though hence the reason to remap.

I have had my MY99 Sti5 type R V-Limited since May 2004. It is completely stock apart from a full Scoobysport decat exhaust system. I run it on Optimax and Millers octane boost. I have a knocklink installed to keep an eye on the engine, dont want any melted pistons!
Millers is available from my local motor parts place (A.R.E in Woking) so should not prove difficult to source, there are other alternatives. Millers is CAT friendly (not that I'm worried) according to the label. Box of 10 is £39
No problems so far, touch wood. Remember the car should be on a 7250 service interval with 3k oil and filter changes to keep it safe and happy. At least this is what I am led to believe by my servicing chap.

I made the change from a MY99 UK Turbo to a MY99 STi Type R Limited.
Go for it, you'll never look back
For more info etc, go to Member's Gallery and click on the "Type R Corner" for all you Type R needs
Infact, just click HERE

Used to love spanking my mates non turbo Carrera 4 now hes gonna get a serious good hiding.
Its already got a turbo timer and a few other gauges apart from that its standard. Thinks a HKS exhaust, induction kit and dump valve will be on the cards to begin with.

Induction Kit and VTA dump valve. Do a few search's. Vta's are ok if like bore wash, and induction kits (apart from K&N) are brilliant for destroying the MAF sensor, especially on MY99 and 00.

If you get it decatted, it is worth putting an induction kit on (I have an Apexi on mine) but I would suggest a remap would be in order to safeguard the engine.
If you want it to pop and bang, you'll get that effect from using a VTA & decat. I wouldn't recommend it personally.
