WR1 - Should I......
Been to my local dealers to try a WR1, low miles 2000'ish for £28k'ish has offered £15K on my 02 STI, what should I do. £13K to change, could get something else with that, old 911 for example ??? How is the WR1 going to hold its value over the next few years ?

I cant understand why you would want to pay an extra £13K for something which is pretty well the same car as you have now? GIve yours a little more power and with the other £11K buy a caterham or something.

I would do the same (and will be shortly), but a WR1 will probably hold its value better even though it is older. A bit like P1's do now. Couldn't live with the colour though thats just personal taste. Daz

Nothing wrong with an MY02 STI.
Use the money to make yours more unique
for a about three grand you could have a bigger turbo,tek3, maybe a fmic and easily 400bhp, plus some spare money for styling mods.

13k is a lot of money m8.
The sti is a great base for modding, have some fun and get it mapped and some whiteline suspension parts fitted. You will have a very rewarding car and save a furtune.

Hi Mark, I guess it depends on your reasons for buying a car, I can't be bothered with the modding etc, don't have the time or the inclination. I bought a WR1 because it's hassle/worry free with awesome performance for 3 years... As for how they'll hold out value wise, I guess unless you have a crystal ball no one can say... I hope it keeps it's value a bit due to the exclusivity. If you drove it and it flicked your switch then only you can say...

Getting insurance on WR1 is a piece of cake - Try getting reasonable insurance on a modded STi and compare the difference. I reckon the WR1 is overpriced and theres enough money in your car for him to come to some arrangement nearer 11K which might make a difference to you.

wr1 is not over priced is worth every penny like all the ltd editions it will hold its value well

My gut reaction was to say go for it as a WR1 will always look a bit more special than a regular STI...
BUT
On thinking about a it, a JDM STI will cost loads cheaper and be a bit more special (not to mention just as rare on our roads). You'll save quite a lot of cash and I would imagine insurance won't be much more than an extra £500 a year at most. Plus you get to choose something other than that bloody awful washed out blue

depends what you want. i think u have a gr8 base car so spend the extra cash on doing it up to what has attracted you to a wr1 + better!! ! i get bored easily and like change and new toys too.if i had to change it would be to a spec c!

anybody know the official times for wr1 and spec c. 0.60. 0.100. i think the wr1 is too heavy even if it has got 320bhp it also weighs 1430kgs same as evo fq340. the spec c must be lighter and quicker at 320bhp and an RA!?

Yep, Subaru claimed 0-60 for a WR1 is 4.2secs. 1430kgs with 320bhp.
I've got an 02STi with 330bhp+ Modding your current car would be my suggestion. I haven't spent silly money on it and I've got more on tap than a WR1.

I'm not convinced it'll hold it's value that well - it's grey FFS and has 4 doors with many of the worst bits of the standard fuglies.
Looks aside, I have a P1 and expect it to be worth chuff - it's 4 yrs old and prob worth about £13-14k, i.e. much less than the £30k paid for it and especially much less than the optimists on here who think P1s are worth high teens - try selling one and see what you really get offered.
The point is, I wouldn't go for the trade in you're being offered - hang on to what you've got, you've already stomached the depreciation and the £13k will be much better invested (or paying off mortgage) IMO.
