Default Newbies looking for some help

Hi,

My cousin has just bought a scoobie and does not have net so im posting on his behlaf.

He has just bought a 93 WRX in blue (manual transmission)

Any idea what BHP this is kicking out?

The engine does not seem that healthy at the moment the dump valve seems to be spitting out oil and whilst driving from a high speed and slowing down the car seems as if it's going to cut out and the revs drop really low, twice the car actually switched off but other than that it just seems as if it's going to happen.

Yesterday we got a simple service done an oil change and there was a lot of oil coming out (think the previous owner put too much in) we replaced the spark plugs with platinum tipped ones and ever since we done this the car doesn't seem to be running like it was the turbo kicks in but there's no throw back into your seat and after 4,000 revs seems the car is not doing what its supposed to be.

The car generally needs a bit of a clean up and a bit of attention and tweaking now anyone on here know what these probs could be and where would be the best place to take the car to get all this looked at?

Were from the North West ... Manchester to be exact.

Also the car has a front end of an STI and we need the round foglamps .. where would be the best place to get them and the sti clusters for the back?

Welcome to you and your cousin, The sti foglights covers can be had from Jap Inovations for about £65 and can be found here http://www.jap-innovations.fsnet.co....gLighting.html

The sti rear lights are quite expensive and probably best to get second hand ones from someone who has changed to the dreaded Lexus lights, but if you want brand new you can find them here at Scooby Mania http://www.scoobymania.co.uk/exterior_info.asp?c=1

Both are really good companys and ive had no problems when ordering off them, Good luck with the scooby.

I think you will find the 93 WRX will be a 240PS version (on 100RON fuel) with an 11.47psig boost target.
If the DV is spitting out oil it would suggest the inlet tract from the turbo to the inlet manifold also has deposits of oil and would best be cleaned. There could be a number of reasons why oil is in he inlet tract and should be investigated further - the overfilling you mentioned could be one
Do you have a boost gauge fitted?

Cheers

Wink

If the car is also lacking 'the kick in the back' @ 4k the ECU may be in 'limp home mode' (restricting the boost to 0.5bar due to a fault) A good way to check would be to carry out a diagnostic ECU check to see if any faults have been stored - shown HERE
As already stated if a quantity of oil has entered the inlet tract it may have also entered the boost control solenoid and ancillary pipework and should be cleaned. The boost control solenoid can be cleaned by connecting the plugs shown on the link to initiate 'test mode' (which will pulse solenoid) then spray brake cleaner in the ports to clean

Cheers

Thanks for the help DelBoy the problem seems to be making a bit of sense now ... we will get this looked into and rather have someone who knows what their doing rather than a back street garage ..

Could also be the dreaded MAF or lambda sensor hence why no boost and wanting to cut out is it lumpy on tick over?

You havnt said if your car is a wagon or saloon?
93 model wagons push 220ps, saloons push 240ps (237bhp) on 100 ron fuel.
As above, Jap innovations in oldham, STi in Blackburn, Prosport in stockport will all do your car for you also check out www.ladsoc.co.uk as its a good site
