STi bogging down off the lights, HOW to do it correctly?
It doesnt matter what you are sat next to, but if they are up for alittle fun i have realized even if they are in a 1.4 saxo, they ALWAYS pull away first.
Then by the time you hit the next set of lights they are smug thinking they are faster, truth is out turbos havnt spun up yet!
Its so annoying, there is no way to launch a impreza without damaging the car! That is one huge downfall in my view.
I was haivng a race against a VW GOLF R32. Off the lights he kicked my ***, then i destroyed him when i caught up. But its not the point.
Is there no way of launching of the lights well without holding the clutch at 4k+ and damaging the clutch?

i find it best to slowly feed in the clutch at 4500 rpm. as your feeding up the clutch you push down on the loud pedal !!
try getting a good getaway in a Alfa 146 with a 1.7 boxer engine, then you see just how good the scoob is.. that thing was a death trap on roundabouts

If you launch a scoob properly, you get seriously pinned in the seat
Try asking one of the experts like Andy F / Pavlo etc etc...

A leon cupra got the better of me the other day..well he took off and i just waited then planted it, before i had time to spool up in second i had to let him through as it was a bottleneck.
He must have thought he had won me or somthing.Wait till i see him again..god damn thing comes in at 2K like my old a3 turbo!

cant say ive had any trouble off the lights i find holding the revs under 3k then slowly release the clutch and push the power on gives more then ample acceleration to see anything ive played against off the line holding the revs too high only causes the smell of clutch and depending how quick u r with lifting the clutch a clonk and or drastic clutch spin but then again i had years of practice in 2wd cossies running high boost so that also does help teach how to launch

theres a few factors involved .i have had 2 scoobs .the second one was blinding off the lights. i can only put it down to the exhaust and air filter, that was the only difference between the two cars.also on my first scoob i changed the hks filter and tried a pipercross the spool up was much quicker and seemed much better from standing start.

Yes its all very well saying the car wont launch... 9 out of 10 times its people on here that cant drive them
I dont do it much at all, as I go for the PS Lewis theory, but the best discreet way is as Paul says and slip the clutch. Doesn't take much skill, but the clutch wont like it.
You can't have it all ways - a very small turbo may spool well but would run out of puff, and a big un will be the opposite. There has to be a compromise.

There are many legitimate reasons for wanting to nail someone at the lights, such as when there are two lanes, straight ahead and right, and you know the *** to your right is going to go straight ahead as well.
Some tricks that don't require you to be able to drive your car well...
1) Stop 1 car length away from the stop line, floor it at amber and cross the line at green doing 20
2) Dont sit there holding 4.5K RPM, get to 4.5K RPM during the amber phase then dump the clutch
#1 also works if you're driving a ****box and will really **** off Impreza owners
I'll just stick to the car that's designed for low end grunt and rarely gets hassle from Civics and Saxos :P

Depending on what clutch you have: 5000rpm, sidestep clutch et voila instant and violent acceleration that will be enough to see off anything mundane. Not terribly mechanically sympathetic but amazingly effective.

I find the best way is to either let the clutch out fully at low revs and then floor it which results in nothing followed by neck snapping acceleration... it's a real laugh and quote shocking for any passengers or to balance the throttle against the clutch at about 3.5k, let the clutch out briskly and floor it as soon as the clutch is fully let out. Doesn't feel as dramatic, but is very effective and will leave pretty much anything behind. It takes a bit of practice, but comes as second nature after a while.

Aaaaahhhh, the joys of owning a Wagon with auto transmission with a smaller turbo that gives full boost and torque lower down the rev range.
Stick it in first, foot on brake reach 2000 rpm, foot off brake....launch then look in your mirror and smile!!!
Don't need to use this technique much as I usually give the 'competition' a head start and then fly by

Right o.k got some good pointers there. I am booking into to a rally day to learn to control the car and i gonna go santa pod and practice starts to learn how to drive her well.
With regards to: GC8 comment. Go screw ya self. I only had the car 4 weeks and 21 so its the most powerful car i have owned to date. Suprisingly its going to take some time to learn all the tips, driving skills and control of the car.
Thanks all. Just practice makes perfect huh

Just put your foot to the floor and side step the clutch! I have no problem with launching. Its when you go into it half hearted that you get the bogging problem. All or nothing mate
