Default 300 miles out of a tank!

(I'll start by saying the car is an MY03 STi PPP.)

I scarcely believe it myself. Took my fiancée and her dogs to west Wales for the weekend to see family friends. Drove down yesterday, taking it gently because of the dogs in cages on the back seat - keeping it to 80mph, no wild acceleration, gently in the corners. Was keeping a good eye out for some Optimax, but in the end I had to fill it up at the east Cardiff services - on Total super unleaded. Drove back today and just made it to the services - 297 miles had used 56 litres!

Must try driving round at those speeds for a few tanks to see if it was just a lucky tankful, was the driving, or was the Total fuel...

It was one hell of a lot less stressful than banging along at the usual 90mph, too!

Subaru fuel gauges dont read linearly, so 1/4 of a tank indicated will have been substantially more; sorry.

368 miles is my record, in a exhaust/tek etc 02WRX. 300+ (but not normally more than 330) is not that unusual IF I'm doing a long cruise along motorways at "standard" motorway speeds (i.e. less than 90mph, but significantly more than 65!)

Ahhh... You can reckon an on an STi drinking 25% more fuel than the equivalent WRX just for a starter. But at least today has shown that decent figures are possible when I'm not in any hurry. Wish I'd tried it 47000 miles ago!

My best ever from my Type R was 29mpg - on a motorway tucked in behind a lorry for 50 miles then travelling at 65-70mph. Oh and I was wearing size 2 Nike Airmax trainers too!

365/tank in 04 WRX PPP with feather foot - all motorway and weather so bad that only the biggest idiots would go faster than 70 - so that is all of the drivers of the german cars then. Have done 250/tank for the same journey at 4:00 am in very good conditions with a flight to catch... It really is all down to the right foot - if the congestion is bad, go with the flow and the car will actually return average 2l fuel economy!

Best economy = 28mpg averaged over the tank

worst economy = 14mpg

I normally average 230 miles per tank (about 24mpg)

OMG I can't get over 160 on a full tank in MY94 WRX! That's with town driving and a few blasts.

Hows about average of 31MPG between fills of Optimax at Telford Services and Portmadog. Covered 341 miles around Mid/North Wales nd used 49.5 litres to refill. Best thing was I wasn't really trying as miles included hills, lanes, mountain passes, some fast dashes on open roads, overtaking slow drivers and pottering around towns. Admittedly it's only a Standard WRX Bugeye.

Even better was next 310 miles until next fill-up at High Wycombe achieved 32 MPG. Mainly the journey back from Portmadog on main roads and motorways using total of 43.8 litres to cover 310 miles. Again, not seriously trying to economise - when safe to do so, I press on if you get my drift.

22 average around town
upto 26 on a long m'way @ 85 ish ~ 330 per tank.

05 WRX 5500 miles on the clock.

I can't believe some people get close to or even over 30mpg..!

Jason

PS my car does feel pritty quick though, to perform better doesn't an engine needs moor fuel..?

It has to be a combination of:

1) Light right foot (for once)
2) Weather conditions being perfect for economy
3) Lack of jams and mobile road-blocks (a.k.a. caravans)

See the following for more of the same:

I must say that these MPG`s don`t actually sound too bad. I`m defecting next week from a Civic Type R, and one of my biggest concerns was the fuel consumption (obviously not enough to put me off though).

I`m only getting 25-27 in the CTR, with mostly town driving, so, judging from what`s been said here, I shouldn`t notice too much of a difference.

Guess again....24mpg at best MY97 town driving ...worst is 18

Strangly it doesn't seen to matter if you drive like an old sod or a chav without insurance!
