Default STI 03 with no tracker

Picking up an 03 STi tomorrow, and paying £16000.

I've been told the tracker doesn't work at the mo becasue it was never activated. Something to do with not wanting it back if it ever got stolen?

Does this sound right. Car is immaculate, pristine, 27000 miles, no PPP.

Any feedback very welcome. Need to know tonight,

Jerry

I'd be a bit suspicious of the tracker "never being activated", i thought they all came activaed from new, it may be an import, that did'nt come with a tracker.

Thumbs down Sounds odd but possible!

My tracker wasn't activated until I'd had the car a while & was browsing the paperwork only to find the documentation intact!(there's one copy of the trackstar registration doc to be sent off). It's the dealers responsibility to sort it out but I guess if the owner said they didn't want it active then it's possible. If the story is true though there should still be all the documentation for it, if not then it's probably an import. If you get fobbed off by the dealer (stealer?) then you could just take the bit of the car where they're hidden apart to see if it's physically there

Price is high? 16000. I haven't seen one cheaper and it is in perfect condition. Is it different outside the SouthEast? I've been looking for two months and this looks good.

But I am worried about the tracker. Has noone heard of this before. Private sale BTW, and warranty at Subaru extended to 2007 (extra year),

They charge a fortune to re-register them to a new owner (even if the previous owner paid a lifetime sub). Also they charge a big wedge to check that they are working (and that therefore it is worth you actually paying the sub). I also doubt their effectiveness - partic the quickly installed ones with aerials...

Don't all TYPE UK's come with RAC Trackstar installed from new? Could this be a Euro import then, or Jap.

Thanks for all your replies so far,

Jerry

Im guessing if it's got an extended warranty from subaru, it must be a uk car, ask to see all the original purchase invoice's, and the original tracker paperwork.

Question

All Type UK's have them installed, but they're not activated until the Dealer sorts the paperwork out with RAC pre-delivery. If it has a tracker (but inactive) then it's probably UK (Although anyone can get one fitted to a non Uk if they want), if it hasn't then it isn't!
To me the price seems a bit low for a 2003 STi at a repuable dealer - if indeed it is - which may indicate it's an Import. You deffo need to find out for Insurance purposes though (both for tracking device & car type/status).

If it`s a type UK it will say it on the logbook, as well as on the intercooler and on the back, but anybody could put those stickers on. Ask to look at the logbook.

I think that price is OK I let mine go to a dealer at that price with 18,000miles on the clock.

That price is good for a private 03 STI

I bought an MY04 STI on a 53 plate with 11,000 miles with PPP and I paid 19k. That was only about 5 weeks ago.

£16,000 too high, give me a break That is a good deal, now just enjoy the car and watch your balance go down as you start to mod it

Hanley,

Was that Private or Dealer?

Cheers

Thanks for all your help. Picked it up today and had a great 50 mile drive back. Took the long way home.

Definitely a UK car, Tracker can come not mobilized, and after some help on another thread I got insurance down to £1300 for me and the missus, which includes our 95 wrx until we sell it. (That's a good price for me).

And elephant don't need the tracker to be commissioned. I'm doing it anyway, but I'm curious as to how many of us would want our cars back if they were stolen. Are they ever really the same again?

Anyway, Thanks again,

Jerry
