Hi Guys, after I drive to and from work mainly off boost (Traffic and short distance) how long should i let the car run for to cool it down.

And like wise on a long hard drive how long is long enougth.

I think my neighbours are mythed that I pull onto the drive way and sit there for 5 minutes picking me nose!

If you're not using the turbo on the way home, there is no need to wait for more than 30 secs I'd say. If I'm out for a long run on constant boost then I tend to wait a couple of minutes.

If you've been driving at steady 30/40mph for the last couple of minutes of the journey, the car won't actually cool down any more by sitting there, just turn it off as you would with anything else. Likewise, if you've been driving on high boost, the best way to cool it down is to drive gently for the last couple of miles of the journey, rather than leave it sat there ticking over.

Regards warm-up time. In simple terms - once the oil is up to temperature. Typically a few miles after the water has reached temperature. I've heard guidance such as "8 miles" or "8 minutes driving around"

IN THE STICKS

As above, If you have only been sitting in traffic /slow driving I'ld say there's no need to sit with it ticking over to 'cool down'. The one to be careful of is the motorway service station stop, it's easy to forget and just turn it off after you've been blasting the outside lane for a few hours . A good couple of minutes of 'nose picking' should help to cool the turbo down though .
