Question BUYING ADVICE NEEDED PLEASE....

Hi Guys,

I have been speaking to this guy off ebay who's my98 turbo wagon didnt meet its reserve. He is interested in a px plus cash for my my98 sport saloon.

When we meet to check each others car out that apart from the obvious checks you do when buying a car, overall condition, shut lines, overspray, checking all electrics, tyres to see if they had been ragged to death etc, what is specific to a turbo that i have to check?

Initially we are meeting halfway so the car will be warm, no chance to see if it smokes from cold. has a magnex system and dump valve - do alot of people have dump valves? i am not a fan of em cos they make you so conspicuous - are they essential, do they make a big diference to throttle response?

the car has done 100k, as has mine, are they are reliable as sports at that mileage?

Would appreciate any buying advice - thanks in advance

In answer to your questions on the dump valve - no they arent essential and you could happily put the quieter original back on and not notice any significant performance difference.

I think the only reliability difference between yours and his would be down to the way its been driven and maintained. There are plenty of turbo owners out there who's cars have done over 100k. Check for a full service history and look at any receipts to see whats been done.

If it feels right then it probably is right.

there are plenty of owners who's cars have not done 100k and blown up. mine was one and it was serviced by subaru spot on time every time, and it still went bang.

you pay your money and take your chance

how much does he want for the wagon?

Take the usual advice and be wary of any deal that seems "to good to be true" though.
