Why do we get Nervous at M.O.T Time ??
Well it's that time of year again, & yes nerves are thwart !! Is it because there may be expense involved ? Is it the thought of being without your baby? Or just the fact we are so sad & love them so much that it's like a visit to the dentist for ourselves !!!!
I do the maintenance myself so all should be well, but you never know ..

They said that if the car doesn't spin-out of the rollers then its ok to test them that way ...... haven't had anyone mention anything about that on here, thought I would have?

he would have in triplicate and signed in blood, a deposition from the garage that the master enginers car couls not and should not be tested on the brake roller machine.

Nothing, I don't think? about a brake test which lasts for about 30 seconds
BUT, I didn't want any damage doing so insisted upon the road test (with me driving!)

Well Panic over, She passed & Guess, Yes they were going to put it on the rollers, But decided not to, when they struggled to turn the rear wheels whilst the rear was jacked up & Not the front.. & Me Standing there saying I don't think you should put it on there !!!!

mot never bothers me, mines well looked after so its never really a problem, although it would have failed the emissions test
if they had of actually stuck the probe up my shiney tailpipe

The Subaru manual says you must not have the car towed on two wheels or you will damage the centre diff, I dont see that 2wd brake rollers would do anything to avoid this kind of damage. Since the 4wd is permanent I don't see any way around this!Even the MOT testers manual says 4wd vehicles should be road tested IIRC.

I can understand that towing a scoob for a long time with one axle off the road would overheat a viscous diff, but a brake roller doing say 3mph for 10 seconds?
Am I looking at this the right way, in that if the diff does not overheat (like being towed as above) then no mechanical damage will occur during a brake test.
Surely the permanent 4WD note in the testers manual refers to diff locks on off road cars where the car would leap off the rollers and could injure workers.
Just an idea.
