Default STi vs 182 (could not pull away!)

My Sti 02 plate is running crap at the momment. Had a race(only up to leagal speeds) with my mate in his 182 and i could not pull away. I had a 172 cup before the subaru and i could pull away from him in that! There is something wrong with the car - it does not give you the turbo push in your seats any more. It is like the turbo is tryin to spin up but can't. Took it to the dealer last week and they reset the ecu and it was better for about 3 days, now crap again. Booked in next friday. Has any one on here go any ideas. Pleaee help

Also engine noise is quiet loud when near the limiter and sounds like it is struggling.

Not as quick as an STi! :P

I had a bit of a blast with a BMW 330Ci yesterday - he didn't want me to overtake, not sure what speeds we were doing, but it was up hill and my rev beeper kicked in at 7k revs in 4th Needless to say I got in front

Don't think the 182 would have given me as much competition!

Between 60-100 there is only 0.7 secs deiffence between the two.

Your car does sound un-well but I wouldn't under-estimate a 182.

....and no, I don't own one and never will own one.

Hello people, there is something wrong. Sounds like it's going into safe mode, probably over a dodgy sensor reading or something. I would have thought the Dealer would have checked the error codes before resetting the ECU, this would tell you a lot more.

Before any more debate and usual 10 page+ thread lets put a different spin on it.

STI 02 with an ecu in safe mode keeps up with a 182!

How slow are those Clio's! ;P

Are we talking a standard STi?

Cause the 182 has alot of power for its weight.

Still sounds odd. Get it down to TSL and get a triple 3 pack sorted That will get it happy again and whooping ***

Even with the extra 80 or so bhp in the sti, you are still luggung an extra 400+kg around! Wake up, anything that weighs a tonne with 200bhp is going to be quick!
However, yours does sound a bit poorly though. Just don't expect to kick the clio's backside when the scoob is well again.

Get that remap, chuck out most of the interior, loose a few pounds, and you'll be half way there to having a fast car, well, fast enough to beat a clio 182!

I totally agree with that, light car -big engine means it will be quick. My civic is just under 200bhp per tonne and it suprises a lot of people.

Back to the clio though, We all know what we would rather drive at the end of the day, and its not french!

Thanks to everyone who replied. Just to say though that as sti does 0-60 in 5.2 and clio does it in 6.6 ish (on a good day) sti 0-100 is 13.4 ish and clio is 17.5. so there must be bit more than 0.7 secs in it. ( 3-4 sec i think)I might as well have kept my cup as i pulled away from 182's in that and wrx subarus! goin to dealer tomorrow hope it is covered by warranty.thanks to all. ade

The 182 isn't as light as you think, still 1,100 kilos. Very nice nimble cars though, but still 17 odd seconds to a hundred

The scoobs can get the power down easier than the clio from a standing start thats why is so much quicker 0-60, once rolling their is not much between them.

And yes i am a scooby owner!
