Question Running costs of current shape Impreza

Hi Guys,

I know people ask these sorts of questions all the time, but I can't find the exact answer I'm looking for using the search.

I've seen a couple of the latest shape Imprezas advertised for around the 12-13k mark and I can afford that. I have had a classic turbo, so have an idea of the running costs. Would the latest shape be cheaper to run though? I was basing this on the fact that the service intervals are twice as long? Are the new shaped ones any more economical?

I only do about 10k a year, so it would only need 1 service a year. That just leaves tyres, insurance and petrol to worry about. I assuming if I don't have it dealer serviced, it doesn't need to cost the earth? Or is this just wishful thinking....

Also, would a new shape turbo with PPP be quicker than a standard classic turbo, or about the same?

Thanks very much for any help,

Steve

I had an 03 wrx and it would do about 23mpg if I remember.

Average service was about 200 quid. Tyres lasted about 18k on the front and about 25k on the back.

If you drive like a *****, I budget on 10K for all tyres, but then I do have the opinion that you should drive hard and enjoy.

You don't buy a Plasma TV and watch it in Black and white do you!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd be extremely surprised if the running costs were significantly different except for the reduction due to the reduced servicing interval. A new shape might be a fraction more economical on the fuel, I suppose: and becuse the parts will be less worn, there should be a lesser chance of something going wrong.

A new shape/PPP will be markedly faster than a classic, and the fuel consumption won't be greatly affected (unless you drive it to the full extent of its greater capability, when it goes without saying that it will !!)
