thanks m8. the car seems good and my uncle has been in it but I was worried about import duty. I've been quoted about that for the container. The 27.5%, is that on the price paid for the car?
Do you still have to convert things like the speedometer?

27.5% is your car +shipping(£600).

then after teh car is in the uk it will cost you about £1500 to get it sva'd could be cheaper depending on what car it is.

is it a subaru?

Sorry for the late reply! Yes this is a subaru, type r, 1999. I was also ringing around asking about SVA testing and was told it would require a enhanced SVA test. This could be around £1500-2k but there's no gtee that it will pass. So if I were to import it I could be with an unusable car.
Does anyone out there know how much a "proof of compliance" would be which is what I need to get from Subaru themselves to provide to the SVA test centre?

By the way this is a private sale through the NZ equivalent of Ebay.

Thanks in advance.

You cant register it so I wouldnt bother, unless its a Personal Import, which it isnt. As far as Im aware there arent any Model Reports available to rent for STI 5 Type-Rs, so an E-SVA cant take place. This makes the ****-take quote of £2,000 for the test and preparation irrelevant too.

'Proof of Compliance' only applies to a type-approved UK car, so expecting more than a brusque 'F*ck off!' from International Motors would be foolish.....

The correct duty rates are: Import Duty @ 10% of the cost of the car and all associated costs, including transport, agents fees and shipping. VAT @ 17.5% is added to the sum. This is quite different to '27.5%'.....

Now if your uncle had owned the car for long enough and he wanted to bring it home and register it itd be a different matter because thatd be a Personal Import.....

Sorry to **** on your chips

Simon
