Default PPP or Remap???

I am sorry if this has been done many many times before

My MY03 WRX has got a JR filter and a Vortex backbox and I am happy with the noise, don't really want it to get much noisier as I have to hit the road early when on call and the neighbours put up with enough noise from my bikes.

I have got a year left on the warranty so from a dealers perspective a PPP would be better, but it's a lot of cash. Would a remap from a reputable source be a better option as I am happy with the "noise" and don't want to increase it. If it was, what sort of gains are potentially there to maintain reliability etc etc, is say 250bhp a realistic figure????

Got some advice from other peeps saying a remap is virtually untraceable should warranty problems arise.

So whats the opinions here folks, and if remapping who would you have to do it in the Northwest UK?

Cheers

Tony

If you want to retain your warrenty, then a remap is a big no no
If you want to take the risk then a remap is far better than a general ppp chip. I can highly recommend brd developements, and so will many others on here. Bob is based down in swindon, and if you wait awhile you'll get in on a group buy, bring the cost down to around the £550-£600 mark for the map.
Bear in mind as well, a tek 3 remap will be mapped for "your" car, not a general ecu for "wrx impreza", so what your getting will suit your mods perfectly. It will make your car smoother, more responsive, more frugal on petrol and will go faster as well
If your going the remap route, it's advisable to look at any other engine mods BEFORE you get the map done, as any changes afterwards neccesitate another remap (although not at the full price)
Pete @ prosport has also recently started remapping cars, don't know prices, but I'm sure he's competitive. (you may have to wait awhile though as they've just had a small fire in the workshop)

Personally, I'd wait a year till your warranty runs out and go for a decat/sports cat exhaust system (which doesn't have to be loud) and a Tek 3. 250bhp and ft lbs is easily acheiveable -it will most likely be 20 more on both counts- and it will have the other benefits that CW42 mentioned.

In the meantime you could concentrate on ensuring that the rest of your car will be set up to take advantage of the power hike. E.g. Suspension and brake mods.

Enjoy.

Thanks for the info Chris

Bugger about pro sport as I will need my 20K service doing in the next month or so, and my selling dealer have ZERO chance of getting my service business after overhearing a conversation about a customers car whilst they had not noticed me standing behind them .......

I think a wait for a group buy may be in order for a remap.

Thanks for the reply m8

Brakes are top of the list, my wifes Picasso Diesel actually has better brakes then my WRX ..... and I am not joking. Going to order some EBC pads from scoobyworld and try that first, then a new set of rubber as the OEM Bridgestones look a bit "tyred" (crap pun I know).

cheers

Tony,

You'll probably find that the brakes in the picasso are just more servo'd so you get more braking for less pedal effort- you have to give a Scooby's pedal a shove, but when you do, boy can they shed speed. The brakes on the WRX are the Scooby four pots, which are actually more than capable for road use and are used in group N rally. They're just hampered by the std pads. You could also upgrade the braking lines to braided ones and make sure the car has top notch fluid in it e.g. dot 5.1. That should do the trick!

If you're going with EBC, make sure you get the Redstuff Ceramic, the others have had rather poor reports on here.

Personally I'd go with Pagid Blacks.

Echo what NS04 says about the EBC Reds. I've just had to bin mine after 6k and 6 months Now running Ferodo DS2000, which seem so far to have better initial bite. I just hope they last a bit longer

Also agree with what's been said about diverting a little of the modding money to other areas. Best mod I've done so far is the rear adjustable ARB and solid droplinks from Whiteline. Turn-in is greatly improved and understeer has virtually disappeared. Can't wait to get the front ARB/links and Prodrive springs now I've also got Dot5.1 and braided lines and JR filter with PPP.
