Recommendations Recovery Companies RAC or AA ??
Wanting to take out some kind of breakdown recovery and cant decide between RAC or AA, both have very similar packages and prices.
Anyone have any experience of them both or which one has better service

Its a long time since I looked into this but doesn't AA cover YOU (and others if nominated) in whatever vehicle you/they are in ... as opposed to the other companies that cover THE CAR.
Forgive me if I am out of date on this. Plus of course this difference may not be important to you.
From my own perspective, I have used both AA on a personal car and RAC as provided with my company car. My experience was that the AA turned up quicker .... indeed the RAC cover was actually a local garage who seemed to only get the callout request from the RAC after a large delay 'in the system'.
Both handled the problems equally well.
Not sure if it helps. Hope so.

Used to use AA many years ago and they seemed okay. Market is more competitive now and many companies use the same contractors anyway.
I would go mainly on price.

I would say AA but then i work for them.AA or rac not much in it to be truthful.Although the AA do have many more of thier own recovery trucks and waiting times are slightly less.

That's what I thought have picked up the impression that most of the RAC stuff is sub contracted and is done usually by a garage thats local to where you are at the time, meaning longer waits as mentioned by others.
Generally then would it be fair to say that the AA would be more consistent ?

I only say RAC cos I work for them and get it cheap.
I think they are a bit crap really, my other half put his fiesta in a tree and I called them to tow it out and take it to our place. I said that I did not want it picked up without me being there (told them someone had given me a lift home) and they said fine.
40 mins later we get back there to find the car gone - taken to a recovery scrapyard. I had an arguement with them and the scrapyard as we had to pay the recovery costs. The RAC did reimburse me when I badgered them pointing out it was their fault they took it!
