SVA Reports?
Hi all,
I have finally got together enough money to buy my first scooby, and I am considering importing one myself. Can anyone give me a brief run down of costs involved, particularly the amount of tax I will have to pay on the car when it comes into the UK?
Am I correct in thinking that if I go for a car over 10 years old it will not require a SVA test? So any 95 model should be ok?
Is there anywhere that I can hire a SVA report if I bring in a younger car? What is this likely to cost and has anyone got any recommendations and advice?
Thanks for any help!
Mark

if you bring a car over and there is no model report it will cost you £1500 +! for a single report and £3000 to £4000 if you want one you can keep and rent out.
cost me £2400 to get my single one done.

Thanks people, appreciate the help.
Just had a quick look at modelreports and see that the number of subaus is limited with only the version 3 available for the classic. Are there any other people renting reports?
Am I correct about the 95 models being exempt from the SVA?

With regards to the 10 year rule would I correct in thinking that I could bring in a 1996 model as they were released from August 1995-August 1996 making the early cars 10 years old? Would this be worth waiting a couple of months till August ticks by before registering the car?

Hi again, is there no help and advice for a guy trying to get hold of a report? Im looking for a SVA report for any post 97 model STi Wagon or Type R. Any help advice from previous experiences would be greatly appreciated. I have looked at modelreports.com and they don't cover the makes and models I am after.
This is such a helpful site cant believe nobody can put me on the right track!

Buy a car thats already here, registered. You wont be able to register a Type-R; as far as Im aware there arent any Model Reports for STI 'Wagons either. This topic has been covered SO many times (feel free to search my posts on importing); youll find all of the answers using the 'search' feature. Importing a decent car yourself is much harder to actually do than you think; for a start, where will you actually get the car from, a web site? You have to be kidding? One further point; Subaru Impreza residuals are depressed here, but theyre bouyant in Japan, the high auction values on most late Classics mean that they cant be economically imported.

I take it Cyprus doesn't have the same strick tests for imported cars? Does this work out cheaper?
Thanks
