Want to put DOT 5.1 fluid in my car.
How do you bleed the ABS system of all the DOT4???
No problem topping up the normal system and running through but need to activate the ABS to do a proper job.
Believe it or not my dealer doesnt know

It mentions replacing the brake fluid in one point only, but it also says "Do not let the reservoir become empty at any time during the bleeding process!".

When changing brake fluid you need to draw off (empty) all the old fluid in the resevoir. A large syringe is ideal if you've got one. Then you fill the resevoir up with new fluid and drain each corner as per workshop manual. (I've got the details somewhere)

This is very easy, especially if you buy an 'easy bleed' kit from Halfords ~£10, as it has a top up bottle that keeps resevoir full and is pressurised from your spare tyre. Essentially it's then a question of opening each bleed nipple and running the fluid out until you see the new (much brighter) fluid the closing nipple and move on to next corner..!

Much easier than it sounds and should be the same basic proceedure for all braking systems.

Yes yes yes yes........but we dont want to mix any fluid thats left in the ABS system with the new stuff so we need to make sure we can get it out!!!!!
If its as easy as bleeding then twatting then bleeding again then so be it no problem for me that bit

 

no no no no.......it's the same proceedure ABS or not..!!!

Once you draw all the fluid out the resevoir and top up with fresh there is no way for them to mix and as long as you let the fresh stuff bleed out for a few seconds you're sorted. You just need to ensure no air gets in via resvoir..!

As you put it 'its as easy as bleeding then twatting then bleeding again'..!

So, so be it.
