Just moved to Germany and started to insure my new car here, not a Scooby as I'm still trying to sell mine in the UK :-( as it'll never pass a TUV here.
Porsche 996 Carerra 4 (with breakdown cover included) same cover as fully comp 977DM per year or just over 300 quid in real money, that and the petrol is about 25% cheaper.
Garaged with 10 years NCD(up to 25 years in Germany !!) and I'm 32.
Insurance companies really ripping us off at home, I was paying 860 quid in the UK for my Scooby !!!!

Cammy,

I'm going to Vancouver Canada for 12 months...fuel nice and cheap over there. Pitty I can't take the Scooby...I'll have to settle for a Viper or something instead!!!

Hope things will have settled by the time I come back...but I doubt it!

Gethin.

Cool

Could this have something to do with the better standard of driving education in Germany? Maybe this produces better drivers? I think so.

Not sure about better, certainly different style to the UK. Its like they are all have dual personalities. Virtually no-one speeds when there is a limit in place on any type of road, usually driving below not at the limit, its not unusual to see huge lines of traffic snaking round country roads, and no-one ever overtakes.
Then you get onto the motorway and they are absolutely mental, I'm doing 160KM in middle lane and a guy flashes me to move over !!! Coming back from Luxemburg 2 weeks ago siting nicely at 220KMPH and 2 cars(3 series and C Class(couldn't see details) go past me like I'm parked up, gulp !!! Bikes don't nick in and out and I've only seen one or two filtering at traffic lights, what is the point of having a bike then ? Just really strange !!!

IIRC, you get three chances to pass your test in Germany. After the third, you have to wait a year before you can take it a fourth time. Fail that and it's game over, you are not allowed to take your test ever again!!!!

Condemned to a life on public transport? Fate worse than death in the UK!

David,

We should enforce that rule in the UK. Like that stupid woman who passed her test on 17th time. I would hate to meet her on the roads.

Don't germans pay much more income tax than us?

Swings and roundabouts methinks!
