COULD'NT OUT RUN A MINI
Yesterday i went to the scooby shootout and my mate followed me there and back, he has a mini cooper S, the super charged one. i know he has had a smaller pulley put on the S charger and he says it puting out 197bhp, but could i pull away from him in a straight line could i hell. I would,nt say it was any quicker than than the scoob but there was no getting away from it.
I was driving my 05 sti.

If you work it out, I think these figures are accurate:
Impreza STI 05
Weght: 1480 KG
Power: 261 BHP
Power to Weight Ratio: 176 BHP per metric tonne
Mini S
Weight: 1215 KG
Power: 197 BHP
Power to Weight Ratio: 162 BHP per metric tonne
14 BHP different, not much in it really!
Impreza STI 05
Weght: 1480 KG
Power: 261 BHP
Power to Weight Ratio: 176 BHP per metric tonne
Mini S
Weight: 1215 KG
Power: 197 BHP
Power to Weight Ratio: 162 BHP per metric tonne
14 BHP different, not much in it really!

I think I'll put off that diet for another day and get a sports cat and remap instead

Just to add a classic UK turbo into the mix for comparrison:
Impreza STI 05
Weght: 1480 KG
Power: 261 BHP
Power to Weight Ratio: 176 BHP per metric tonne
Impreza UK turbo standard (classic)
Weight: 1235 KG
Power: 218 BHP
Power to Weight Ratio: 176.5 BHP per metric tonne
Impreza STI 05

Impreza UK turbo standard (classic)

Let's get some objective figures on the table, before people in Mini's get carried away too much (although I think they're fab cars). People quoting power to weight figures without taking gearing and transmission losses into account is a complete waste of time and tells you practically nothing about how the car will feel performance-wise.
If you calculate the power at the wheels in each gear, taking account of gear ratios for each car, make an adjustment for weight (i.e. power to weight at the wheels in each gear), plus make a final adjustment for transmission losses (say 25% for the scoob, 15% for the mini), then you get:
1st number: Std STI - 261bhp
2nd number: Mini Cooper S - tweaked - 197bhp
1st: 1876, 1700 (91% of scoob power)
2nd: 1225, 1036 (85%)
3rd: 908, 75 (83%)
4th: 694, 613 (88%)
5th: 501, 509 (102%)
6th: 390, 416 (107%)
So...on these rough figures...std sti has more power available at the wheel in 1st to 4th, but in 5th and 6th this modded mini actually has more power at the wheels (based on my very rough transmission loss assumptions, but probably not miles off) - not too much of a surprise, as 5th and 6th on a UK STI are overdrive.
Either way, it's within 18% of the scoob's power whatever gear you're in, so one fluffed gearchange is all it's going to take to mean this cooper will stay with the STI. However, it ain't faster, however you cut it.
Edit to say: a 210bhp works car gets even closer - same power at wheel in 1st, a little lower 2-4, then quite a bit higher 5th and 6th. All I can say is mate, get yourself the PPP kit!

My misses might be in a draw at work to win a brand new cooper s,anyone want it????
I'm either gonna sell it or set fire to it haven't decided yet, money would be nice but would it have the same satisfaction as burning it????

I had a play with one of these on the motorway for about 2hrs, in my last scoob a MY99. It was one of the competition cars to, as it was fully decked out in sponsors gfx, had the rollcage, electric cutoff etc etc. I could get away from him quite easily, and he was definately trying. He always caught up due to heavy traffic. I guess I was able to do this over an STI due to my mighty power to weight ratio advantage of .5bhp
