HELP newbie, info needed about wrx
hi people this is my first post, and i must say great site
right went to have a look at a wrx wagon today, it has a gearbox problem but the price seems right
what do i need to look out for (the seller seemed a little dodgy) as i am going to see it again tomorrow
i took it for a drive it doesnt change gears because of the auto box problems, apart from that it was driving good,
before i left from his, i had a look at the logbook and it said
subaru impreza gl 4wd
it didnt mention anything about wrx or turbo, is this right or not, this is my only concern
also anybody know how much a auto box is
all feedback shall be appriciated
many thanks

Dependant on age, I'd say it is probably an import. IIRC the JDM (Jap Domestic Market) car range is designated GS, GX etc. This could be important when considering insurance as imports are usually more expensive to insure. Also, many Subaru dealers won't touch it for servicing or repair, but there are plenty of independants who will.
As for the auto 'box, do you really want an auto Historically, auto's can be troublesome although modern units seem to be reliable. I seem to recall hearing about a drag Scooby in Oz using an auto very successfully, but personally I wouldn't touch it without a full inspection and quotes for all repairs required from a trusted workshop.
Don't rush it. A mate of mine recently bought what seemed a minter only to realise 2 weeks later that the big ends are shot.

This is a common mistake made by the DVLA; I understand that 1.8GL is the first Impreza entry on their system and many a WRX has been landed with this handle. However; the tosser might have skanked it and bought an 1800 for the identity, ragged it half to death before trying to pull the wool over your eyes.....
