I drive a Subaru!!!!
There.
I've said it.
Do I feel better?
Well, YES.
It seems like the words "Subaru", "Impreza", "Scooby" & "STI" seem to have become swear words.
The opinions implied by other sites are that the Impreza is right down there with XR3is, Burberry (sp?) & shell suits?
Well, I couldn't give a ****. I love my Scooby. My next car (God willing) will be a Scooby.
As a wise person once told me "There's only one umm - **** umm"
So, as an exercise, as ALOT of peeps (not just Scooby-owners) read this site, I thought I'd do a POLL.
What is YOUR opinion of the Subaru Impreza?
Will be intrigued to see what the results are....

I could've chosen any 4 door sub-£20k car, and after many days sat at work checking stats etc. (er, no I mean working hard) I chose a WRX. As far as I could find out, nothing came closer to what I wanted for the money.
Love it.
Love it.

I'm proud to say I drive a Subaru...and shock horror, it's a classic, you know, like the one all those "chavs" are supposed to be driving.
I drove it to the station the other day and returned from the platform having dropped a mate off to find the car surrounded by a 2 person deep crowd of tourists taking pictures of it. When I started it up and they heard the flat four rumble through the H&S backbox some of them almost wet themselves with excitement!
I've yet to give anyone a lift who hasn't commented what a great car they thought it was and how quick it is.
I've got thumbs up from all corners, frequently get stopped by people who want to know more about the car and say nice things and even my female mates think it is the bees knees!
It makes me grin every time I see it and drive it and frankly that's all that matters.
To paraphrase Team America.
SUBARU: F*CK YEAH!!!

I agree equally with both the 1st & 4th viewpoints of the poll, would like to have voted for both!
Am proud to drive a Subaru, best all round car I've ever had!
And my STi really is a true allrounder!

All this "Chav" magnet is all crap IMO.
The Scooby is like any other desirable car, in that once it starts to age, and the prices drop, it becomes more affordable to more of the people that wanted it in the first place, but didn`t have the necessary cash.
Look on any "Chav" estate these days, and you will see any older once-desirable car ie: BMW, Golf GTI, even the odd Audi TT, now that you can get hold of left handers for lower money.
It happens to all desirable cars, despite what others on "rival" forums may think.
And just for the record, I`ve now had my first Scooby, a MY05 WRX, for about 8 weeks, and it is far and away the best car I`ve ever owned. What else on the market goes, stops, and handles like this for 20k ?
Nothing. Nuff said.

Seriously though, agree with everything you say! Any 'aspirational' car will depreciate to a price range that makes it accessible to a few low lifes "before it becomes a classic it become cheap", as they say in the trade.
Lets not forget, it also means that some perfectly decent people that couldn't afford a new one will also get their hands on older examples and keep them in good order for others to enjoy. That should be celebrated.
Also, never forget that you don't have to be of limited means to be a low life.....a certain lottery winner springs to mind! Would anyone want to buy one of his cars.....me neither!
It's a state of attitude, not bank balance.

I'm proud to say that I drive a Subaru but I went for a BC5 Legacy turbo instead of the Impreza due to the way that the image has gone, the car still drives the same and makes the same noises and is quicker than lots of uk Imprezas now.
It is sad the way that the image suffered but the Impreza will never by an RS as much as you'd like it to be, the great thing about the RS is their resale value but that seems be missing from the Subaru
They are excellent drivers cars in my opinion and the only thing that spoils it is the reliabilty, theft and some of the owners
I still dearly love the Impreza but it may be some years until I get one now The classic is still the ultimate and either an sti or p1 would be my ultimate Subaru.

I'm proud to say I drive a Subaru too, but where I come from, I think that means something different.
Over here, most Subarus are Outbacks - kind of a quasi-truck sort of raised station wagon, or naturally asperated Foresters. When people think "Subaru" they usually think about mothers running to the dry cleaners or lesbians.

Classic driver here.
Just started a thread on Fog light use when its clear and thought perhaps they ought to be renamed 'look at me lights' This is the usual terrain of BMWs and some Mercs. Then again perhaps they should be 'Chav lights'
My point is it's deffinately an image problem, both for those undesirables who need an ego boost and the rest of us who get tarred with the same brush.
The Chav image doesn't come from a drop in prices though, numerous footballers own Aston Vanquishs and I heard Jordan is getting a DB9.
Its something we have to live with I guess, I chose the Impreza as it's the most capable car I could afford with 4 doors (boss said I had to have 4).
As 555 said, those people who think we're all *ssholes, f*ck em.
